EARTH DAY CELEBRATION WITH PANDA MOBILE
By: Pratama Aditya Haryanto (Panda Mobile Coordinator)
Earth Day is a momentum for everyone to start raising awareness for the environment. In this year's Earth Day celebration, Panda Mobile visited one of the schools that almost annually involves WWF-Indonesia's Panda Mobile in celebrating Earth Day, namely Al-Fath Cirendeu Elementary School. The visit, which took place on Thursday (06/04), carried the theme "Save the Earth".
Some of the activities carried out in this visit were storytelling, watching movies, games, and recycling activities. The participants, consisting of 3rd graders, gathered at the school hall to get acquainted with the volunteers from Panda Mobile. They were then briefed on the history of WWF, conservation efforts in Indonesia, and the six umbrella animals.
After the explanation, Kak Ryan told a story titled "The Tree and its Animal Friends". The story was able to attract the interest of the participants to imagine the condition of the forest that needs to be preserved. Still in a cheerful atmosphere, the students were invited to play the games "Hunter and Tiger" and "Chiki Chaka". They also watched the movies "Quartet at the Crossroads", "Plastic Planet", and "Renewable Energy".
Of all these activities, there was one activity that was highlighted by the teachers, namely recycling used T-shirts into shopping bags. The activity was a form of the #SejutaAksi Movement initiated by the Earth Hour Indonesia Community in order to reduce the use of plastic bags. The teachers who were also involved in the activity felt that the students who were involved in the action were very enthusiastic because they could contribute directly to the environment through an action that they could even do at home with their parents. The proceeds from the activity will be handed over to the Earth Hour Community which will later be distributed to the wider community.
