THE SPIRIT OF ZERO WASTE SCHOOL IN DEPOK: TOGETHER PROTECT THE ENVIRONMENT FOR THE FUTURE
Three schools in Depok - SMP Negeri 7 Depok, SMP Negeri 4 Depok, and SDN Tapos 05 - have actively participated in the Zero Waste School program organized by WWF-Indonesia. The Zero Waste School program aims to increase environmental awareness among students, especially in reducing the use of plastic waste.
In SMP Negeri 7 Depok, students showed great concern for environmental issues, such as the adverse impact of landfills close to residential areas. Through interactive discussions, they also learned about endemic animals of the Ciliwung River, such as bulus, which are becoming increasingly rare. The students' passion for protecting the environment reflected their courage in sharing their stories and discussions.
Meanwhile, at SMP Negeri 4 Depok, the socialization was enthusiastically welcomed by 466 students. Guided by the WWF team, the students learned about Zero Waste School and the 5Rs waste management steps (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Refuse, Repair). They also began to implement a green lifestyle by bringing tumblers and lunch boxes from home.
At SDN Tapos 05, the program was more interactive with an inspirational story from Uncle Gery about the dangers of plastic waste to marine life. Students learned about the impact of plastics on the environment and how they can contribute to protecting the earth from an early age.
The activities in these three schools raised awareness that protecting the environment is a shared responsibility. With small steps starting from school, for a healthier earth in the future. Our small actions will certainly contribute to creating a greener, cleaner, and waste-free future. Come on, from now on, make caring for the environment a part of your daily life!
