By: Nabila Cintya Batari (Volunteer Panda Mobile)
On Sunday (12/03), Panda Mobile enlivened the Ngampoeng Fun Run 2017 event held by alumni of the Jakarta School of Fisheries (STP), one of the higher education units of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP), at the STP Campus, Jl AUP, Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta. This event is a means for alumni and the STP academic community as well as the surrounding community to strengthen ties and increase solidarity between alumni and their families.
Panda Mobile was invited in this event to fill the Kids Zone Ngampoeng Fun Run 2017, where children can do activities. Approximately 60 children participated in Panda Mobile's visit this time. The activity started with coloring. Children who visited the truck immediately enthusiastically colored pictures of various umbrella animals that are the focus of WWF-Indonesia's conservation work. Children aged 5-12 years old seemed to have fun coloring. The coloring activity was chosen as one of the means to introduce endangered animals to children. They can also be more creative and their imagination can develop with coloring activities.
After the coloring activity, the children were directed to watch a movie in the Panda Mobile truck. The first movie watched was "The Adventure of Banyu & Elektra". This movie was chosen to invite children to learn about energy utilization in a fun way. It was also related to the Earth Hour celebration. The next movie screened was "Quartet of the Crossroads" which tells a complete story about WWF-Indonesia's four umbrella animals, including rhinos, orangutans, elephants and tigers. Through clear and vivid images, the children could see the real form of these animals. They were amazed. "Hunters and Tigers" was the last movie to be screened. This final movie was able to make the participants laugh because they saw some funny scenes in the movie. They also squealed when the tiger chased the hunter. Through this movie, they were shown that one of the threats to animal conservation is poaching. To make the movie's message more relatable, Panda Mobile's volunteers held a question and answer session about the movie.
The next event was a storytelling activity delivered by one of the STP Pasar Minggu staff named Om Paul. He told a story about a kind shark and his friends. The children were also invited to sing and dance with Om Paul. After listening to the storytelling, they were invited to contribute to the #SejutaAksi activity carried out by the Earth Hour Community in Indonesia. Members of the Earth Hour Jakarta Community taught the children how to make cloth bags from old t-shirts. With the help of volunteers from Panda Mobile as well as Earth Hour Jakarta, the children were able to finish making the bags from the t-shirts. The hope is that the cloth bags can be used for shopping and replace the use of plastic bags. The activity concluded by marching to the main stage and dancing in front of the visitors with great joy.
