One of the curriculums that Mentari Intercultural School Jakarta has is learning about endangered species. Therefore, on Tuesday (05/12), the school located in Cipete, South Jakarta, invited WWF-Indonesia's Panda Mobile to provide information about forests and endangered species to their students.
Taking place in the school hall, around 80 students in grades 1 and 2 participated in educational activities with Panda Mobile. Sani Firmansyah and Wina Sagitanova from Panda Mobile WWF-Indonesia started the activity by introducing WWF to the students. During the introduction, a video was also played about Panda Mobile's educational truck and the activities that have been carried out.< br />
Next, the students received an explanation about the function of forests and why forests need to be protected. Wina then explained about the six umbrella animals that are the focus of conservation efforts by WWF-Indonesia. In the middle of the explanation, the students were challenged to answer some questions about umbrella animals.
Through a short movie entitled "Quartet at the Crossroad" which tells the story of four endangered umbrella animals in Indonesia, the students got an overview of their habitat in the forest and the threats they face. In addition, it also showed some of the efforts that have been made in order to conserve them. The movie screening ended with an invitation to live a green lifestyle on a daily basis that can support the preservation of nature.
At the end of the activity, the students were able to grasp the information that had been conveyed. Evidenced by the answer of a student who could explain one way to help endangered animal conservation efforts. "We can help endangered animal conservation by not buying products that contain endangered animals," replied Harper, one of the students.
The activity was closed with a group photo. The Panda Mobile team hopes that Mentari Intercultural School Jakarta students can participate in endangered animal conservation efforts and save the environment starting from their immediate surroundings.
