The celebration of Global Tiger Day was also carried out by Panda Mobile, WWF-Indonesia's environmental education truck. On Monday (25/07), Panda Mobile visited SD Pribadi Bilingual Boarding School, Bandung to introduce Sumatran tigers to the students.
The activity, which was attended by more than 100 students, began with storytelling by Kak Ryan. Through storytelling, the students got several messages about the environment and how they can help protect it. The atmosphere was immediately cheerful because they were carried away by the story being told.
One of the ways used by Panda Mobile to make the students of SD Pribadi Bilingual Boarding School more familiar with Sumatran tigers is by using group games. The game session, which was attended by students in grades 3 and 4, was named "Tiger Hunt". The students were asked to make a big circle by joining hands. Then, one of the children played the role of a Sumatran tiger and stood inside the circle. While another child plays the role of a hunter who stands outside the circle. Those who make this circle are tasked with protecting the tiger from a hunter who is ready to hunt the tiger from outside the circle. Although the weather was quite hot, they were very excited to play the game.
The children in charge of protecting the Sumatran tiger, eagerly trying to protect the tiger from poachers. The child who played the role of a tiger felt exhausted when he had to keep running from the pursuit of poachers. Indirectly, the students who played could feel how the tiger felt being chased by poachers. After the game, a volunteer from Panda Mobile explained that currently one of the biggest threats facing Sumatran tigers is poaching and illegal trade. "Poaching is decreasing the tiger population," explained one of Panda Mobile's volunteers.
The message to help preserve and protect Sumatran tigers is also conveyed through movie watching activities in the Panda Mobile truck. This time, 1st and 2nd grade students were invited to watch a tiger-themed animated movie. Their curiosity was aroused during the movie screening. Many of them asked questions about the facts of tigers in the wild and how efforts to save tigers are being made.
In addition to getting to know one of the umbrella animals that is the focus of WWF-Indonesia's conservation work, the students were also invited to care more about the environment by turning plastic bottle waste into hydroponic pots. Thus, they can green the environment on a narrow land while reducing waste.
