PANDA MOBILE AND SD LAZUARDI GCS DEPOK LEARN BIODIVERSITY TOGETHER
"How many types of elephants are there in Indonesia, Miss?" "What types of turtles are there in Indonesia?" The chat feature in the zoom application was crowded with students' questions when Kak Hanna Astaranti from the WWF-Indonesia Mobile Panda team was explaining umbrella animals (17/04). It has been more than a month since the WWF-Indonesia Mobile Panda team visited schools and public areas in carrying out its mission. SD Lazuardi GCS Depok, the second school to invite Panda Mobile to provide information about nature conservation efforts in Indonesia. We received the invitation on April 8, 2020 with a virtual class on April 17, 2020.
Before 10:00 am last Friday, SD Lazuardi GCS Depok Teaching Staff Mrs. Yusfina Hendrifiana held the students, teachers, and WWF-Indonesia Mobile Panda team in the Meeting Room on the Zoom app. A few minutes later, we entered the main room, connected simultaneously in cyberspace. There were 72 class IV students, 6 teachers, and 3 WWF-Indonesia Mobile Panda teams in the virtual class that morning. The Panda Mobile team introduced biodiversity. "Guess what, my friends, his body has a pattern of stripes, he is a carnivore or meat-eater, lives in the forest. What animal am I?" asked Kak Hanna Astaranti to the students. In the slide presentation, Kak Hanna had prepared a blank slide to draw on. Participants were busy answering questions by drawing answers on the "canvas". The chat feature in the zoom application was also busy with answers. The students were invited to guess one of the umbrella animals.
Tiger!" the students answered in words and digital images. Tiger is one of the umbrella animals in WWF-Indonesia's conservation efforts in collaboration with various parties, government and local communities. Besides tigers, other umbrella animals are orangutans, elephants, rhinos, turtles and whale sharks. They have a fairly wide range. "How many types of elephants are there in Indonesia, Miss?" asked Anastasia Zinia Holo. "What types of turtles are there in Indonesia?" asked Mohamad Mehdi Naki. These two questions are just a few of the many chat rooms where the Panda Mobile team introduced umbrella animals and their habitats in a presentation on biodiversity.
Not only that, students are also invited to start doing an environmentally friendly lifestyle. The Panda Mobile team reminded them to always turn off the lights during the day, unplug their cell phone, laptop, or other electronic devices when they are done using them, turn off the tap when brushing their teeth, and other simple activities that can be done at home. Although simple, if done by many people, it will help protect the habitat of umbrella animals and other living things. Activities in cyberspace, do not make students, teachers, and the Panda Mobile team stop learning to recognize nature and protect nature. Hopefully, the spirit to remind each other and contribute to conservation starting from home will not be dimmed by the pandemic. Always be healthy, my body and my Earth!
