PANDA MOBILE IN FUN RUN MENTARI SCHOOL BINTARO
By: Irfan Alfian (Volunteer Panda Mobile)
A total of 700 people consisting of elementary, junior high, and high school students from Mentari School Bintaro, parents, and alumni seemed excited to run starting from Bintaro Xchange Mall on Saturday (01/04). The running activity organized by Mentari School Bintaro was titled Mentari School Fun Run: Run for the Earth in commemoration of Earth Day.
In the event, Panda Mobile WWF-Indonesia was also invited to participate to foster public awareness of Earth's sustainability. In this activity, Panda Mobile raised the MyBabyTree program related to the theme Run for the Earth. Through MyBabyTree, the public can adopt a planted tree and monitor its progress through geotags technology.
The Fun Run opened with a musical performance from Mentari School students. The participants started running at 06.30 WIB. Two hours later, the Fun Run was over and closed with the announcement of the run winners. Pratama Aditya from Panda Mobile WWF-Indonesia then explained the MyBabyTree program. The explanation includes the location of the planting, the length of maintenance, the benefits of planting a tree, and its contribution to the environment and the community around the planting site.
The participants and Mentari School students were also invited to the Panda Mobile truck to play and learn about the environment with Panda Mobile volunteers. They tested the puddles around the running location using the water laboratory facilities on the Panda Mobile. The water quality tests included looking at the presence or absence of microbes in the water using a microscope and testing the acid-base properties of the water using litmus paper.
After that, the participants watched short films about "MyBabyTree", "Quartet at the Crossroad", and "Tiger Hunter". The introduction of umbrella animals that are the focus of WWF-Indonesia's conservation is also done through coloring activities and cranklek games. The children seemed interested in playing orangutan-themed cricket. In the boxes that must be jumped over, there are various explanations about orangutans, such as their characteristics, food, and habitat. The children seemed enthusiastic about the Panda Mobile activities. Not only entertaining, the activities carried out can also foster concern for the environment.< br />
