EXPLORING PAPUA WITH PANDA MOBILE AT SD SEMI PALAR BANDUNG
By: Dwi Widya (Volunteer Panda Mobile)
On Thursday (10/08), WWF-Indonesia's Panda Mobile had the opportunity to attend Rumah Belajar Semi Palar Bandung. The learning process in this place is very interesting, which places the students to grow as a whole through the educational process facilitated jointly by teachers at school and parents at home.
The presence of WWF-Indonesia's Panda Mobile in Semi Palar Learning Center is to support Semi Palar's learning theme this year, "Indonesia's Outer Islands". The Panda Mobile team prepared activities with the theme "Exploring Papua".
The students were invited to watch a movie about Cenderawasih Bay, which shows how beautiful the sea and beaches in Cenderawasih Bay are the habitat of whale sharks. "Teluk Cenderawasih National Park is a bay surrounded by several islands, including Biak Island, Yapen Island, and the mainland of Papua Island. There is one of the protected animals there, the whale shark," explained Dwi, volunteer Panda Mobile.
"The Cenderawasih Bay marine area has a diversity of flora and fauna spread both on land, on islands, and in the surrounding sea waters. This area also has a life support system protection function. In addition to storing economic potential through fisheries and tourism activities, Indonesian waters are also home to various types of endangered and protected marine species, such as various types of turtles, marine mammals, sharks, various types of reefs and reef fish, as well as other marine biota, "he added.
The students looked very enthusiastic when listening to the explanation. Furthermore, they were invited to do an interactive game called 'Jelajah Papua'. The game introduces native animals in Papua. "Kids, it's not only whale sharks (that are protected). It turns out that there are a lot of protected animals in Papua, such as leatherback turtles, pig-snouted turtles, cassowary birds, birds of paradise, and golden coat kangaroos that we must protect together, "explained Osha, volunteer Panda Mobile.
"The activities carried out by Panda Mobile WWF-Indonesia can foster a sense of belonging to the natural beauty that exists in Papua. Hopefully, when they grow up, they can protect the beauty of the island and the potential of the sea in Indonesia. And through the education delivered by Panda Mobile, the students in Semi Palar will also be able to act environmentally friendly when traveling to the beach or sea. They can be more knowledgeable about how to be an environmentally friendly traveler," said Wieni, Semi Palar teacher.
