On Friday (21/09), Panda Mobile-WWF Indonesia visited National High Jakarta School, Kembangan, West Jakarta. The Panda Mobile team invited students in grades 1 and 2 to get to know animals in the sea and on land through the theme "Life Below Water and Life on Land".
The activity started at 08.00 WIB and began with a typical greeting and introduction of the Panda Mobile team. After that, Amkieltiela, Marine Science and Knowledge Management Officer of WWF-Indonesia gave a presentation on "Life Below Water". The woman who is familiarly called Kak Tiela explained about various kinds of marine life, pollution that occurs in the sea, and human waste that poses a serious threat to marine ecosystems. The students were very excited to follow the presentation, especially when they saw videos and pictures. Many were eager to raise their hands to ask questions about the material presented by Tiela and answer the questions posed. At the end of the presentation, the students were urged to protect the marine ecosystem in easy ways, such as not littering and reducing the use of plastic.
Furthermore, according to one of the themes of the activity, namely "Life on Land", the Panda Mobile team introduced animals that live on land through coloring activities, watching movies, and educational games. They colored pictures of protected animals that had been distributed by the WWF-Indonesia Panda Mobile team. The students looked serious coloring and asked questions about the animals they colored. While coloring, they got information about how to protect protected animals and facts about protected animals.
After the coloring activity was over, they were invited to climb into the Panda Mobile-WWF Indonesia truck and watch the movie "Jungle Forever" about two hunters who turned into forest rangers because they were helped by orangutans. While watching, the children were also given information about the threats faced by the animals in the movie and how to care for and protect Indonesia's forests. The children displayed various expressions while watching the movie. They laughed and shouted while watching the short movie. After watching, the students were asked questions about the movie and about the information provided by WWF-Indonesia's Panda Mobile volunteers. With great enthusiasm, almost all students scrambled to answer the questions.
The last activity they participated in was the "Explore Papua" game. This game introduces endemic animals in Papua. They happily and agilely played it. In addition to getting acquainted with the endemic animals of Papua, the children also played cranklek which tells the story of a tiger. They queued patiently for their turn to play and listened carefully to the information presented.
Even though it was raining quite heavily, their enthusiasm did not fade and they were even more enthusiastic in listening to all the information delivered by the WWF-Indonesia Mobile Panda Volunteers. "Will you be here again next year, Kak?" asked Joan, one of the 2nd grade students who was not willing when the event was closed with a question and answer session. The question was greeted with a smile from the Panda Mobile volunteers who stated that they would come back to present material that was no less fun than this year.
