MOBILE PANDA ARRIVES AT GLOBAL JAYA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TO TEACH BIODIVERSITY
On Friday (25/01), WWF-Indonesia's Panda Mobile had the opportunity to visit SD Global Jaya Bintaro to introduce endangered species in Indonesia. This activity is intended for 1st grade students. The activity started with the introduction of WWF-Indonesia and Panda Mobile. Next, the students were invited to visit the activity posts.
At the first station, the students were invited to listen to a presentation with the theme Biodiversity. In this segment, the Panda Mobile team explained about six protected and endangered umbrella animals (umbrella species). Umbrella animals have large home ranges and have a huge impact on their environment. The six umbrella animals that are the focus of WWF-Indonesia's conservation work are the Sumatran Tiger, Javan Rhino, orangutan, Sumatran Elephant, sea turtle and whale shark.
The next activity was to watch a video entitled Quartet at The Crossroad which tells the story of four umbrella animals. This video tells the story of various animals that have lost their homes due to human activities. Then, the students were invited to see WWF-Indonesia rangers using camera traps as a tool to monitor the movements of protected animals. "So the WWF-Indonesia team can find out the presence of animals in the forest with the help of camera trap," said Hanna, Engagement Activation Staff.
In the second post, the students were also invited to see how the camera trap works directly. The camera shown functions with an infrared sensor and a motion sensor. When there is a movement of wildlife, the camera will capture a video of the animal's movements.
In addition, the students were also invited to play orangutan-themed cricket games. In this game, participants can interact with each other while learning facts about Sumatran and Bornean orangutans. At the end of the activity, the Panda Mobile team advised the students to protect the umbrella animals by saving energy and reducing the use of plastics, paper and tissue.
