DWI WIDYA MUTIARA "BEYOND THE LIMIT TO THE END"
By: Miami Nawaputri
Joining Earth Hour Bandung as a volunteer while still studying, made the woman who is often called Dwi start her career as an environmental activist. She was motivated to volunteer not only to make friends, but also to share the knowledge she had learned with the community to make it more useful. Being a graduate of Geography education, Dwi has no trouble conveying various energy issues to the public. By presenting the issues in a more communicative, creative and light-hearted manner, she makes it easier for the community to understand the issues presented. He feels that energy is an interesting issue and many people do not understand this issue compared to other issues. In fact, according to him, this issue can be found in everyday life, from the use of electricity at home, the use of motorized vehicles, and others. In the campaign activities carried out with his friends in Bandung, Dwi carried out various activities that involved the community to care about protecting nature by giving one example of the impact of climate change which is currently increasingly felt.
The activities are carried out in various places, such as public open spaces and even reach out to social gatherings. Apparently, Dwi found that some people do not really understand about environmental pollution caused by various daily human activities. This activity is certainly not easy to do, various challenges must be faced by Dwi and friends when conducting the campaign. Some people still underestimate and don't care about the issue and they feel that the solutions provided are quite hard to do. However, there are also many people who appreciate the action, they try to dig deeper into the information.
Volunteering has been her passion since she joined the Earth Hour community. Even from that community, several other activities were born that have been initiated by him and have survived until now. One of them is the Semalam Matikan Lampu activity or abbreviated to SEMALAM which began in 2013. SEMALAM was born through the Bandung Energy Wise Community Network (JKBBE) which became the first local community in the Bandung area and became a second home for Dwi and his friends. SEMALAM's activities resemble Earth Hour, which is turning off lights and electronics that are not being used for 1 hour, but the difference is that SEMALAM is held once a month. So far, SEMALAM has received very good appreciation from the people of Bandung.
Besides being a volunteer, Dwi also actively participates in the #BeliYangBaik campaign and has the opportunity to become an activist in the campaign. Together with his community, Dwi was trusted to compile a Guidebook for the public. The guidebook discusses environmentally certified products, such as Roundtable of Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO), Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), Marine Stewardship Council (MSC), Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC). In addition, it also discusses guidelines for consuming environmentally friendly seafood, information on energy utilization and others. Although he is busy as a volunteer at Panda Mobile, he does not forget to implement an environmentally friendly lifestyle in his family, as well as the surrounding environment.
Her dedication and consistency as a volunteer since 2012 until now has resulted in an award from WWF-Indonesia as a form of appreciation for "Unlimited Dedication". The award she received is dedicated to her parents who have supported all her activities, as well as friends who have helped and contributed in launching various campaign activities that have been carried out together. He felt happy, emotional and surprised when he received the award, especially since he initially did not know about the award and was quite surprised that the award fell into his hands. He felt that with this award, at least the community appreciated the campaign activities that Dwi and his friends carried out.
According to him, he just does what he has to do as best he can and does not give up on the challenges he faces as long as his actions can have a positive impact on everyone and has a big responsibility to be able to do better. This environmental issue is not only important for environmental activists but we also play an important role for society and make others happy. The trick is to do your best, be patient, consistent and confident in the results and maintain the stability of the energy that has been expended.
"Even though we are volunteers, we must try to give the best results professionally, that's when people will see our dedication." Dwi-2018
