PANDA MOBILE ENCOURAGES NUR HIKMAH KINDERGARTEN STUDENTS TO ADOPT A PLASTIC DIET
By: Raisha Safira (Volunteer Panda Mobile)
Realizing that the Earth and its contents are a gift from God makes humans appreciate it more and then consciously protect it. This is what the students of Nur Hikmah Kindergarten, Bekasi, wanted to instill early on last Monday (03/09). In an event themed "Our Environment is a Gift from God", the students were introduced to the fact that the Earth and its contents are a special gift. On this occasion, WWF-Indonesia's Panda Mobile was also invited so that the purpose of the activity could be well conveyed.
Since morning, the students have been sitting neatly and following every instruction with enthusiasm. Panda Mobile's visit to Nur Hikmah Kindergarten was not the first time. Therefore, most of the students are familiar with some of the activities that will be carried out.
The series of events began with a brief introduction and continued with a fairy tale by Kak Ryan. The theme raised in this fairy tale is about the effects of plastic waste that pollutes the sea and hurts animals. With his puppet, Kak Ryan portrayed a tiger who helped his friend, a sea turtle, to release the plastic stuck in his leg. A cheer goes up when at the end of the story, the tiger manages to release the plastic. This light, humorous, yet educational story proved to be effective in instilling the values of environmental love in children.
One of the environmental values conveyed by the Panda Mobile team is to reduce the use of plastic or "plastic diet". Through a short movie that tells the story of plastic use and its dangers to the Earth, students can conclude for themselves what to do to be able to save the use of plastic bags. Dozens of children proudly raised their hands and said that they had brought food and drinks from home. Meanwhile, some other children promised to bring lunch and remind their parents to bring shopping bags from home to reduce the use of plastic.
The volunteers Panda Mobile WWF-Indonesia were happy with the response from the students. This means that the conservation message has been delivered well. The activity with Panda Mobile ended with a group photo and donation from the students to WWF-Indonesia. The donation will then be used for the Sumatran Tiger conservation program.
