EARTH DAY ACTIVITY AT GREEN MONTESSORI WITH PANDA MOBILE
By: Siti Nabila Cintya Batari (Volunteer Panda Mobile)
In celebration of Earth Day, Panda Mobile spread the message of conservation at Green Montessori School to foster a sense of public concern for the preservation of the Earth. The activity themed Earth Day Activity took place on Friday (07/04) and was attended by 140 kindergarten and elementary school students of Green Montessori in Pancoran, South Jakarta.
The Panda Mobile activity began with storytelling about plastic diet by Mr. Ryan who told about the dangers of using plastic excessively. Through the storytelling, children were invited to utilize used items that are no longer used. They seemed to really enjoy the story. Laughter, jokes, and hysterical screams echoed in the room in between stories.
After storytelling, the volunteers Panda Mobile WWF-Indonesia divided the participants into several groups. Each group participated in various activities held at several posts, including the Movie Post, Game Post, and Water Laboratory Post.
At the Movie Post, volunteers Panda Mobile screened the movies "Quartet at the Crossroads" and "Renewable Energy". The movie "Quartet at the Crossroads" tells the story of the lives of four umbrella animals, why they should be protected, and what WWF has done to protect them. While the film "Renewable Energy" explains about water that can be utilized as a source of energy to replace energy sources that can run out.< br />
The students were also introduced to umbrella animals through the games "Water for Elephant" and "Engklek Harimau". While playing, they also got information about elephants and tigers.
In a recycling activity that uses the principles of reduce, reuse, recycle for elementary school students, Panda Mobile's volunteers invited them to utilize used clothes into shopping bags that can be used for daily activities. During the activity, they were very enthusiastic about making cloth bags from old T-shirts. However, due to time constraints, many did not have time to finish the bags at school. However, they promised to finish it at their respective homes.
The highlight for the students was visiting the Panda Mobile truck. The back cabin of the truck can be opened so that children can climb up and read the collection of books in its library. Those who are just learning to read are excited because students who are already fluent in reading enthusiastically teach their friends who can only read.
