GFTN-INDONESIA WELCOMES INTEGRA
For immediate release – February 19, 2009
Jakarta, Indonesia. February 19, 2009 – PT Integra Indocabinet (Integra), a privately owned company which is located in East Java, is officially Global Forest & Trade Network (GFTN) new participant. Through today’s participation agreement signing with GFTN-Indonesia, Integra formally marked its commitment to responsible forest management and trade practices.
With strong supply chain control in US market destination, Integra also export their product to UK, Canada, and several European countries (Italy, Spain, Norway, France, and German). In addition, Integra maintains business partnership with IKEA in Sweden for years. As the company who has high commitment in running green business, Integra sources most of their timber from community forest in Java and Sulawesi. Therefore, the company has big contribution in helping local business or farmers.
“We are working with local community and buying timber from their forest for years. We also put high appreciation on their welfare by helping them with their basic living needs”, said Integra CEO, Widjaja Rusli.
By this high devotion in responsible management for forestry business practice, Integra bought two forest management units in Borneo area with total cover of 160,000 Ha in 2007. The two FMUs are now in progress toward FSC certification through TNC (The Nature Conservancy) facilitation. The company also intended to develop industrial forest plantation as well as empowering local community to work along.
“Global Forest & Trade Network (GFTN) always welcome companies with strong commitment toward environment by high appreciation of social and economy. We believe that this commitment is a good start to realizing responsible forest management. Furthermore, Integra also bought two forest management units which are in the process toward certification. This will complete one circle of better forestry practices in Indonesia,” said GFTN-Indonesia Coordinator, Irwan Gunawan.
Established in 1989, Integra produces indoor wooden furniture knock down and fully assembled bedroom or case goods furniture using various kinds of timber species, such as solid pine, mahogany, gmelina, acacia and mixed with veneer (maple, oak and cherry).
“We are glad to be a part of WWF in reducing global warming effect by buying timber from community forest,” added Integra CEO, Widjaja Rusli.
Indonesia is one of the largest producer countries of industrial timber, pulp and paper in the world. As a developing country with poor forestry governance, illegal logging and trade are common. Local companies and forest concessions committed to achieving responsible forest management are key stakeholders in GFTN’s fight against illegal logging and related activities.
