Still in celebration of Earth Day 2015, WWF-Indonesia in partnership with Disney Junior and Central Park Mall Jakarta held "The Power of Doing Good". The event, which took place on April 22-26, 2015, was designed to foster a love for the environment through providing easy and fun examples of a green lifestyle. Two of children's favorite characters, Jake the Pirate and Princess Sofia, were brought in for a meet and greet session. Since last Wednesday, the central area of the shopping center located on Jalan S. Parman has always been crowded with toddlers to elementary school children who come accompanied by their family members.
After a photo session with the characters Jake and Sofia, the children scattered to the activity corners available at a number of points. WWF-Indonesia was present in two educational activities that were always full of visitors; "Upcycling Corner" and "Face Painting". Both activities were guided by Panda Mobile volunteers who were very skillful and friendly in managing the activities.
At the "Upcycling Corner", children were invited to utilize used paper to make various useful items. The children were happy to make pirate hats, boats, and shopping bags from waste paper. Many of them immediately wore their hats, or played with their paper boats. Eva, one of the children who had finished folding her pirate hat, even asked her mother to take a picture of her near the paper figurine of Captain Hook.
Children and families showed great enthusiasm at the "Face Painting" corner. After every photo session with the characters Jake and Sofia, there was a queue. However, the children did not fight each other and patiently waited for their turn. Various animals in various colors were painted on their hands and arms. "It's better there, sis. We have another event after this," said a mother who accompanied her child.
Messages about environmentally friendly behavior are also embedded in the corners of activities managed by WWF-Indonesia, such as bringing your own drinking bottle, not using containers made from styrofoam, and others. Everything is in an effort to instill the message of green lifestyle from an early age to children and visitors in general.
