By: Irfan Alfian (Volunteer Panda Mobile)
On Thursday (15/06), WWF-Indonesia's Panda Mobile had the opportunity to conduct activities in a village in Cipanas, Cianjur Regency, West Java. Collaborating with BEM Gunadarma University, the social service activity located in Batu Lawang Village aims to introduce and provide education related to the benefits of environmental awareness and personal health to village children around Batu Lawang.
In this visit, the Panda Mobile team did not include the Panda Mobile truck, but only provided content for the activity. Assisted by students, village children around Batu Lawang were gathered at a village unit cooperative. The activity opened with remarks from Gunadarma University students. Then representatives from Panda Mobile gave an explanation of WWF-Indonesia and its history and also provided information about endangered animals in Indonesia.< br />
After the opening and introduction of WWF-Indonesia, the team divided the participants into two groups. One group was invited to take part in activities using the Panda Mobile water education laboratory facility. In the water education laboratory activity, the children were given an introduction to the water cycle, the benefits of water in everyday life, and water-saving behavior. They were also introduced to the Rimbang Baling area which is the natural habitat of the Sumatran Tiger.
The volunteers Panda Mobile introduced how to use a microscope to look at microbial content in water. They examined water samples from a nearby puddle. The children also learned the acidic and alkaline properties of solutions using litmus paper and pH meters.
At the same time, another group was playing an educational game. This time the Panda Mobile team brought a game that is fairly new to Panda Mobile, namely "Explore Papua". In the game, children are presented with information about several animals in Papua, some of which are birds of paradise and golden coat tree kangaroos. The information contained in the game is the characteristics, habitat, and threats of typical Papuan animals that are starting to become endangered. The activity was then continued by watching movies about the environment, such as "Tiger Hunter", "The World Where We Live", and "Quartet of The Crossroads".
The series of activities with WWF-Indonesia's Panda Mobile continued with storytelling by Kak Ryan who presented a story about a burnt forest. The story told of an orangutan who was taking a walk in the forest and found the only tree left. Then there was also an elephant who was sad because of the actions of humans who burned the forest. Not only children who enthusiastically listened to the fairy tale presented by Kak Ryan. The students and parents who accompanied their children were also immersed in the story. The activity was closed with the distribution of basic necessities from Gunadarma University students to the children and parents of Batu Lawang Village who attended the activity.< br />
