WWF-INDONESIA PANDA MOBILE COLLABORATION AND PAMULANG UNIVERSITY ACCOUNTING DEPARTMENT FOR A BETTER ENVIRONMENT
By: Pratama Aditya Haryanto (WWF-Indonesia Mobile Panda Coordinator)
Accounting is a science that many people may think has very little to do with the environment. However, it cannot be denied that data analysis in accounting can be applied in environmental conservation. This is what the Accounting Department of Pamulang University (UNPAM) is trying to develop. As one of the universities located in the South Tangerang area, UNPAM collaborates with various institutions in Jabodetabek. WWF-Indonesia is one of them. This cooperation is fairly new in South Tangerang. The reason is, UNPAM and WWF-Indonesia, represented by the Panda Mobile team, will work together related to the management of students as volunteers, giving public lectures about the environment, as well as environmental education and socialization activities through the KKN (real work lecture) program which is annually carried out by students as a form of community service.< br />
The collaboration began through a national seminar entitled "Opportunities for the Accountant Profession in the Implementation of Village Accounting". The activity held on Saturday (29/07) was attended by more than 200 students, nine institutions and corporations that work with UNPAM, as well as several representatives from the UNPAM Rectorate. WWF-Indonesia was represented by Pratama Aditya Haryanto as the Panda Mobile Coordinator from the Marketing Division.
Located in the UNPAM Auditorium, the event was opened with remarks from the Head of Accounting S1, H. Endang Ruhiyat, S.E, M.M and the Rector of Pamulang University, Dr. H. Dayat Hidayat, MM. Endang Ruhiyat said, "Accounting and the environment can support each other through many things, not only about data management. An accountant also needs guidance to manage the environment for the better, an example is the good use of paper as an accountant usually does."
The collaboration between the two parties was marked by the signing of a cooperation letter. The cooperation, which will last for more than a year, was established thanks to the idea of several lecturers who wanted activities related to environmental issues. One of them is Sugiyanto, a lecturer who teaches at Pamulang University's Accounting Department. "Students are now very active in various fields. It would be good if they could get education and a different but still positive platform. I think the environment is a new and fresh issue to be given to accounting students at UNPAM. WWF-Indonesia is also the right partner," said the lecturer who has been teaching at UNPAM for more than four years.
