WWF-INDONESIA AND GALERIES LAFAYETTE COLLABORATION IN #TOGETHERPOSSIBLE: FOR A LIVING PLANET
By: Natalia Trita Agnika
Galeries Lafayette collaborates with WWF-Indonesia to educate the younger generation and the public by giving and sharing about the concept of 'a living planet' through year-end festivities that carry the theme #TogetherPossible in the Polar Christmas series. The collaboration will run for one month until December 25, 2016.
In a press conference at Galeries Lafayette on Friday, November 25, 2016, Melissa Ann, Head of Marketing at Galeries Lafayette, explained that the collaboration aims to invite the public to be more aware of ecosystems, natural resources, and the existence of endangered animals. Education about endangered animals is presented through the presence of 15 windows at Galeries Lafayette in Pacific Place featuring endangered animals in the world and in Indonesia.
On the ground floor, there are images of polar bears (Ursus maritimus), Penguins (Spheniscidae), and Pandas. Then there is a window displaying images of all three animals in a picture that conveys the message that there is only one planet Earth and whatever humans do in any part of the world will have an impact on these species and the health of our Earth.
On the 1st floor, the windows at Galeries Lafayette are colored with endangered marine species, such as whales (Balaenoptera), sharks (Carcharhinus falciformis), sea turtles (Eretmochelys imbricata), and coral reefs. On the second floor, windows showcase Indonesia's natural heritage, such as orangutans (Pongo pygmaeus), Sumatran tigers (Panthera tigris sumatrae), and rhinos (Rhinoceros sondaicus and Dicerorhinus sumatrensis). The top floor represents the sky, the umbrella of our planet. The windows on that floor feature the endangered bird of paradise (Paradisaea apoda), hornbill (Buceros rhinoceros), and Javan eagle (Nisaetus bartelsi). The public can get to know each animal through the QR Code on each window.
Devy Suradji, Marketing Director of WWF-Indonesia explained that #TogetherPossible is WWF's global campaign that invites the world community to jointly protect nature and its biodiversity regardless of where the animal is located. "We realize that protecting nature cannot be done by WWF alone, but industry players and retailers, even schools that deal with the community (directly) must integrate and join hands to save the Earth and preserve what is left," continued Devy.
In addition to the images of endangered animals in the windows of Galeries Lafayette, this collaboration is also realized through various interesting environmental-themed activities involving several collaborators, including Nadine Chandrawinata, Iko "Jamaica Cafe", Kleting Titis Wigati, and Davina Veronica. Nadine, who is active in the #SeaSoldier movement, created a special #SeaSoldier bracelet design for this collaboration series with a portion of the proceeds going to conservation. Meanwhile, Kleting, who has been concerned about the environment since she was a child, will invite visitors from among children to learn more about the ocean through storytelling and engaging activities. She is also releasing a clothing design for this collaboration. Similar to Kleting, Davina will be doing a beauty class while chatting about orangutans. And in the spirit of Christmas, Iko "Jamaica Cafe" will invite a children's choir to perform in "Green Christmas Carol".
During the collaboration until December 25, 2016, visitors to Galeries Lafayette can also donate a tree through WWF-Indonesia's MyBabyTree donation program at all cashiers in Galeries Lafayette or adopt the Tiger Papier Mache on display at Galeries Lafayette's 2nd floor. Shopping can be a means of giving and sharing.
