MANGROVE CRAB BMP WILL BE THERE TO GREET COMMODITY PLAYERS
By Windy Rizki
WWF Indonesia once again conducted an external review of BMP (Better Management Practice), this time devoted to mangrove crab (mud crab) catch. The event was held on Wednesday, October 29, 2014 at the WWF SBS office in Denpasar, Bali, and presented 9 experts from various regions in Indonesia as resource persons. External review is useful to review the content of BMP before BMP is officially released and distributed to its target.
This external review successfully brought together a variety of resource persons from various interests, including academics such as Diponegoro University lecturers, Maros Brackish Water Aquaculture Research and Development Center, DKP Pemalang, TAKA Foundation, Bunaken Park Care Community Forum, Field Instructors and mangrove crab fishermen themselves. The event, which was opened by Achmad Musthofa as the coordinator of WWF Indonesia's capture fisheries program and led by Windy Rizki as the person in charge of the mangrove crab commodity, was serious but relaxed. Mangrove crab as one of the potential fisheries that has high economic value is still considered to need more attention, especially in the issue of catchable size because there are still many crabs that are too small to be consumed, besides the demand for crabs that lay eggs is also a concern because this is certainly contrary to sustainable fisheries.
Resource persons from various perspectives attractively gave their inputs to the draft of this mangrove crab fishing guide, the inputs that have been given for this draft of Better Management Practice (BMP) will later be refined into a final draft and later after completion of printing will be distributed to fishermen in the assisted areas of WWF Indonesia and the areas of the invited resource persons.
