UNITING HEARTS TO SHARE FOR A SUSTAINABLE NATURE
By: Pratama Aditya Haryanto (Panda Mobile Coordinator)
The third week of Ramadan, on Sunday (18/06), WWF-Indonesia's Panda Mobile visited the Pusdiklat BPK (Supreme Audit Agency) Building in Kalibata, South Jakarta to enliven the Iftar event organized by the Sea Turtle Study Group (KSPL) from the National University.
In addition to organizing Iftar activities together, KSPL friends apparently have another mission for the participants who attended that day who came from an orphanage near the BPK Pusdiklat Building, Kalibata. The mission carried is to provide information and education about the environment.
The event, themed "Unite Hearts, Share with Each Other, Preserve Nature and the Environment from an Early Age", was opened with a presentation on sea turtles delivered by student members of KSPL, National University. They explained about the habitat and threats faced by these ocean travelers.
In line with KSPL's presentation, Panda Mobile also invited children to get to know animals. One of them is through the game "Explore Papua". This game invites children to recognize seven native animals from Papua. With great enthusiasm, they took the clue cards given by Panda Mobile's volunteers. They then read the information about the animal. After knowing the information and which animal they got, the children would try to put the ball into the bucket according to the animal's picture. The atmosphere was noisy because the rubber ball that had entered the bucket bounced out. But the challenge made the participants even more enthusiastic to get the ball into the bucket and become the winner.
In addition to getting to know various animals, children also learn many things about water. One of them through activities in the Panda Mobile water education laboratory. They examined four types of water, namely clean water, dirty water from the environment around the BPK Pusdiklat Building, acidic water, and alkaline water. The participants were also invited to use a microscope to find out the bacteria in dirty water. These things are intended to make them understand that clean water supply is not only for human sustainability but also greatly affects wildlife and existing ecosystems.
Knowledge about water continued with the movie "Banyu's Adventure in the Land of Water". The hope is that after watching the movie, children will be more concerned about the lack of clean water supply on Earth and become more efficient in using clean water for future life.
After breaking the fast, the participants then enjoyed takjil and drinks. The activity was closed with a group photo of the participants, the committee, and the WWF-Indonesia Mobile Panda team.
Eko Yudha, one of the National University KSPL Committee said, "Activities like this have often been done. But coupled with environmental education, this is the first time it was held and very interesting of course. Not only (get) blessings in Ramadan, but also new knowledge for the participants who attended about the environment and the wild."
