PANDA MOBILE AT JAKARTA WINDOW LIBRARY
By: Reggy Hanna Alexandra Mentang (Volunteer Panda Mobile)
On Sunday (26/03), Panda Mobile WWF-Indonesia was invited by Komunitas Jendela in collaboration with BEM Faculty of Economics Gunadarma University to participate in their teaching-learning activities at various locations. One of the locations visited was the Jendela Library in Jakarta, located in Babakan, Setu, South Tangerang City.
The Panda Mobile team started the activity by doing introductions first. Pratama Aditya Haryanto as the Coordinator of Panda Mobile opened the event by introducing the volunteers and also explained about WWF-Indonesia. Next, the children in the Jendela Library were invited to listen to a story told by Kak Ryan. This time, Kak Ryan told a story about WWF-Indonesia's endangered umbrella animals, namely orangutans, tigers, elephants, and rhinos fighting over the shadow of the only tree left in the forest. The tree lost all its friends due to the forest fires that hit the area. With great attention, the participants of the Panda Mobile activity listened to Kak Ryan.
After listening to the story, they were divided into groups to do various activities in parallel. Some groups watched movies first, some did water lab activities, and some groups participated in games.
The movies screened were "The Adventure of Banyu" and "Tiger Hunter". The selection of the movie was adjusted to the theme set by BEM FE Gunadarma University and Jendela Community, which is environmental and animal conservation. At the end of the movie screening, the volunteers will give prizes for those who can answer questions about the movie that has been screened. The enthusiasm of the children to answer the questions was extraordinary.
At the "Games" post, the participants were invited to play cranklek which explained about tigers. Despite the unfriendly weather, they remained enthusiastic and tried to get to know the facts about Sumatran tigers. To warm up the atmosphere, they were also invited to do ice breaking, namely the Chiki Chaka game. The laughter and jokes they let out added to the enthusiasm of the volunteers guiding the session.
An equally interesting activity also took place at the "Water Lab" post. The participants were invited to observe water from their neighborhood through a microscope. Many participants admitted that they had never used a microscope before. They were surprised when the water they thought was clean turned out to contain a lot of bacteria. In addition to observing through a microscope, they also used litmus paper to find out the difference between acidic and alkaline water.
In turn, the participants in each post exchanged positions so that they could do all the activities. The activity that took place with Panda Mobile received a lot of praise from the surrounding community. They considered what was done by the students of Gunadarma University, Komunitas Jendela, and Panda Mobile WWF-Indonesia very useful for many local children. The activity, which lasted from noon to evening, was closed with a group photo of the committee from BEM FE Gunadarma University, Jendela Community, and Panda Mobile WWF-Indonesia.
