By: Ryza Hanifa (Volunteer Panda Mobile)
On Tuesday (07/11), Panda Mobile was invited to SDN 01 Tanjung Duren in East Tanjung Duren, Grogol, West Jakarta. The purpose of Panda Mobile's visit to SDN 01 Tanjung Duren is none other than to provide early education about the environment and introduction to endangered animals to students at the school. There were about 80 grade 5 elementary school children who participated in activities with Panda Mobile.
The activity began with an introduction and explanation by Panda Mobile volunteers about WWF-Indonesia and umbrella animals. There are six umbrella animals that are the focus of WWF-Indonesia's conservation work, namely Sumatran Tigers, Sumatran and Kalimantan Elephants, Sumatran and Kalimantan Orangutans, Javan Rhinos, sea turtles, and whale sharks.
After that, at the school field, Kak Ryan delivered a storytelling about the burning forest. He made the children imagine what will happen to the wildlife living in the forest when the trees are no longer there to shelter the animals. The students were invited to protect the forest because it also means protecting the animals that live in it.
Next, the Panda Mobile team invited the students to play "Explore Papua". Clue cards about typical Papuan animals were distributed to representatives of each group. In a chain, each group member whispers the characteristics of the animal. Through this game, students were introduced to several animals in Papua, such as whale sharks, birds of paradise, cassowary birds, and leatherback turtles.
The education shared by the Panda Mobile team is not just about animal conservation. Panda Mobile also introduced the environment by introducing the water cycle, observing water quality, and ways to save it. The activity is packaged through Panda Mobile's water education laboratory. By using a microscope and some existing equipment, the water introduction activity feels more interesting.
Information about endangered animals and the environment was also obtained by watching movies. The students were invited to watch the movie "Tiger Hunter" and "Quartet at the Crossroad". They were very enthusiastic about watching the movie. Everyone had a good laugh during the chase scene between the tiger and the hunter. At the end of the movie, Panda Mobile volunteers asked the students questions about the movie. The series of Panda Mobile activities was closed with a thank you from the students to the volunteers Panda Mobile.
