""We are campaigning for WWF. Please support and donate us. WWF is a foundation that helps us to save our environment,"" exclaimed three kindergarten A students from Sekolah Noah Cijantung, East Jakarta, in front of their parents who picked them up after school. The three students carried a banner that read "Save Coral Reef" decorated with colorful paper of their own creation. Their action was one of the campaigns to support the conservation movement and concern for the environment as part of the semester project activities carried out by elementary and kindergarten students of Sekolah Noah Cijantung on September 22-23, 2015.
The semester project conducted by Sekolah Noah this year took the theme of the environment. "That's why we invited Panda Mobile so that children get knowledge about the environment through interesting activities," explained Renny Megawati, the person in charge of the 2015 Semester Project.
On the first day of the activity, Kindergarten A students received information about the importance of maintaining cleanliness through storytelling presented by Kak Rico. Using a puppet character named Dedot and accompanied by music and songs, Kak Rico's message was well conveyed. When asked, "Who wants to maintain cleanliness?" all students compactly exclaimed, "Me!" On the second day, the students were introduced to endangered animals by Kak Ryan through his interesting storytelling. After listening to the storytelling, they climbed into the Panda Mobile truck to watch the movie "Tiger Hunter". Various games such as cricket and Panda Mobile's signature snakes and ladders were also played as a way to learn more about the environment.
In the afternoon, it was the turn of elementary school students to have the opportunity to do activities with volunteers from Panda Mobile. They got an explanation about WWF-Indonesia and the conservation efforts that have been done to protect endangered animals. Their enthusiasm was shown when they did the 3R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) activity. Some made paper bags from old newspapers, while others made brooches from old magazines.
Another activity that the students did with the volunteers was water observation. They observed and researched the time duration of water absorption in various types of surfaces, such as soil, grass, and asphalt. This kind of research and observation is in line with their semester project. "This year's semester project is research-based," Renny said.
What is special about the Panda Mobile visit this time is that the school provides support for WWF-Indonesia through various activities. The students were asked to make various works that were then sold and the proceeds were donated to WWF-Indonesia. They also provided a donation box that can be filled by anyone, whether students, teachers, or parents. With great enthusiasm, they also campaigned to classes in turn according to a predetermined schedule. Kanaka, a grade 1 elementary school student with sparkling eyes said to one of WWF-Indonesia staff who joined the Panda Mobile group, "Kak, I have donated to WWF-Indonesia, you know!"
