BREAKING THE FAST AND GETTING TO KNOW THE ENVIRONMENT WITH PANDA MOBILE
By: Faradiba Engelen (Volunteer Panda Mobile)
In this month of Ramadan, Panda Mobile WWF-Indonesia received a cooperation invitation from Dafam Hotel Teraskita to conduct social service activities that took place at the Kota Tua Branch Post Office, Central Jakarta, on Saturday (10/06). The activity, which was packaged in an iftar event and sharing information about the environment, was attended by 170 children from around the Kota Tua area who were under the auspices of the Tri Kusuma Bangsa Foundation.
The location is difficult to reach by truck, so the Panda Mobile truck could not be presented. However, the Panda Mobile team still brought Panda Mobile's signature educational content. The Panda Mobile volunteers started with an introduction to WWF-Indonesia. The participants, who mostly consisted of kindergarten and elementary school students as well as some junior high school students, were then treated to a story told by Kak Mia. By imitating the voices of animals in Indonesia, Kak Mia introduced several types of animals to the children. Occasional laughter was heard from the participants while listening to the story. Kak Mia then asked questions at the end of the story and was answered with great enthusiasm.
After listening to the story, the children were given a short break to perform the Asr prayer. The event then continued with games, water quality observation, and watching movies. The three activities took place simultaneously divided into three activity posts, each of which was guided by Panda Mobile volunteers.
At the movie post, children were invited to watch a movie with the theme of animals and the environment. The movie "Tiger Hunter" and "Living Planet" were able to make the children seriously listen. They were able to answer all the questions asked by the volunteers.
In the second post, the Sumatran tiger and orangutan themed cricket game allowed the children to get to know these two animals while playing. Children scrambled to get the first turn to play and read information about Sumatran Tiger and orangutan facts.
Meanwhile, in the third post there was a water laboratory activity that really attracted the children's attention because this activity was new to them. In this post they can measure the pH of water, observe microbes in water using a microscope, and learn about the water cycle with Panda Mobile volunteers . All children were enthusiastic to come forward and answer questions.
General Manager of Dafam Hotel, Jaka Priatna appreciated this social service activity with Panda Mobile. "The children who participated in the activity deserve attention. They are very happy to be invited to play but also get new things that have never been done before like the activities being undertaken now," he explained. The series of social service activities was closed with breaking the fast together.
