On Thursday (12/10), WWF-Indonesia's Panda Mobile visited SMPK Penabur Gading Serpong, Tangerang. The visit of Panda Mobile this time was in order to enliven the "Science Fair" held by the school. Around 240 students from elementary and junior high school participated in the activities with Panda Mobile.
The activity began with an introduction to Panda Mobile and WWF-Indonesia, information about the six species of umbrella animals that are the focus of WWF-Indonesia's conservation, as well as current campaigns.
The participants were then divided into several groups to make it more effective. The movie watching activity was conducted on the Panda Mobile truck for elementary school students. The movies were "Quartet at the Crossroads" and "The World Where We Live". At the same time, junior high school students conducted water observation activities with equipment from the Panda Mobile laboratory in the form of microscopes, pH meters, and litmus paper. The activity aimed to provide knowledge about the importance of water for human life, other living things and to maintain the balance of nature. The two groups then took turns doing the activities regularly.
In addition to watching movies and making water observations, the elementary school students also tried out the "Jelajah Papua" game. Before playing, the Panda Mobile volunteers explained about the "Explore Papua" game which was created to better introduce endemic Papuan animals. How to play is very easy. Participants choose a card given by a volunteer and then read the information on the card about one of the six types of animals in the "Jelajah Papua" game. Then the participants had to throw the ball into a bucket with a picture of the animal they chose.
Woro Tri Puspanti, a science teacher at SMPK Penabur commented, "The activity is very good. Year after year there is always something new and changing so we don't have to worry about the children getting bored." Woro also added, "Next year I plan to invite Panda Mobile again and will involve the high school level in more serious activities."
