This morning's cycling and exercise activity is themed 'Green Lifestyle', in line with the efforts of the government and WWF-Indonesia in reducing the impact of emissions that are very influential for environmental sustainability and health. Through this momentum WWF-Indonesia together with the main partners of the Ministry of Forestry of the Republic of Indonesia, Brigif Linud 17 KOSTRAD, and KPBB distributed 1,500 tree seedlings to the general public who attended the Car Free Day this morning.
""50 years is not a short time, and we really appreciate the efforts that have been made by WWF-Indonesia over the years, especially in supporting the government in conservation efforts through community mobilization activities," said Minister of Forestry, Zulkifli Hasan. "Today, by taking advantage of Car Free Day, we try to do a slightly unique activity to inspire people to be aware of conservation by distributing tree seedlings to them, as a symbol of the importance of us to take action now to save the earth by planting trees together."
There was quite a surprise after the tree seedlings were distributed at Bundaran HI. A total of 345 soldiers of Brigif Linud 17 KOSTRAD suddenly spontaneously performed a 7-minute flashmob with Gangnam Style-style moves. Flashmob was chosen as a creative platform that is considered to easily attract public attention due to its popularity. In an entertaining way, people who filled the Car Free Day today became aware of the WWF-Indonesia 50th Anniversary Celebration event and the positive synergy between KOSTRAD and WWF-Indonesia in the mission of nature conservation.
"KOSTRAD fully supports WWF-Indonesia's efforts in nature conservation in line with our motto 'Green Barret Go Green', which is KOSTRAD's commitment to preserve mother nature. Through this very creative activity, we want to invite people throughout Indonesia to start adopting a 'Green Lifestyle' for a better future," said Major Inf. Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, Head of Operations Section of Brigif Linud 17 KOSTRAD who is the motor of KOSTRAD's participation in today's Car Free Day with WWF-Indonesia.
Car Free Day were lively thanks to collaboration with more than 30 communities who are members of KPBB, who also carry out their routine activities in the HI Roundabout area. KPBB Coordinator, Zafach Andrianto, said, "As a community that has been promoting Car Free Day for a long time, the participation of various institutions in WWF-Indonesia's 50th Anniversary Celebration today shows that 'Green Lifestyle' has been considered as a lifestyle that should be embraced by the wider community. We sincerely hope that this collaboration is not only today, but will continue for as long as the 'Green Lifestyle' movement campaign runs.""
"Through this tree seedling distribution activity, we symbolically want to invite people to start a 'Green Lifestyle' early on and do greening starting from their small environment, namely the family. We hope that people will take concrete actions to make the earth sustainable, and also support WWF-Indonesia in any form in campaigning for a green lifestyle," said WWF-Indonesia Marketing Director, Devy Suradji. "Today, Indonesians have many choices through 5 pillars of green lifestyle that they can do to protect the environment, such as walking, cycling, using public transportation, bringing their own food or drink, to planting trees. The five pillars are aimed at reducing emissions, while preserving the environment.""
The MURI record-breaking ""The Most Panda Dolls Cycling Parade"" was the highlight of WWF-Indonesia's 50th Anniversary Celebration activities on Car Free Day today. This action featured 20 Pandos cycling tandem, along with a procession of WWF-Indonesia supporters to the location of WWF-Indonesia's 50th Anniversary Celebration event at TIM. The first of its kind in Indonesia and in the world, this cycling parade was held as an appeal to the public to always behave in an environmentally friendly manner by using 'green transportation', namely bicycles. The MURI record breaking by this cycling parade is expected to be a strong message for the public to care about the importance of reducing emissions.
After the opening ceremony, a series of events ""Golden Path of Love - A Love Offering for the Earth"" will be centered in the TIM environment for 8 full days, from December 16-23, 2012.
