THE YOUNG GENERATION'S JOURNEY TO THE HEART OF BORNEO
Young people need to know about many issues concerning nature and the environment, including deforestation, and sustainable development. They need to be given basic knowledge and skills and empowered as the next generation who will witness, be agents of change and become environmentally conscious entrepreneurs.
WWF recognizes that youth is one of the important components to support the conservation and sustainable development of the Heart of Borneo in the future. Following up on the Youth Debate Competition organized by WWF HoB Program held last April 2012, WWF is preparing a special trip for the winning students of the competition.
Danau Sentarum National Park, as one of the important areas in the Heart of Borneo and local communities in Kapuas Hulu District in West Kalimantan will receive a visit from students of Australian International School and Global Jaya International School. The students will experience a trip to Borneo, a fun and educational journey, which will be remembered for a lifetime, visiting many places where WWF is conducting programs to rehabilitate wild orangutan migration areas, strengthen local communities and promote community-based ecotourism.
This trip is like a nature class that will take students to another window to understand and appreciate the value of nature and culture. For 7 days from September 28-October 4, 2012, they will meet with Kalimantan students and exchange stories, see and experience conservation work to protect forests, orangutans and other important species, experience the lives of Dayak people in longhouses, and to see how nature provides the necessities of life for local communities.
