AN-NAHL ISLAMIC SCHOOL CELEBRATES EARTH DAY WITH PANDA MOBILE
By: Ririh Zikriah (Volunteer Panda Mobile)
There was something special about the Earth Day celebration at An-Nahl Islamic School, Bogor, this year. For the first time, the school invited WWF-Indonesia's Panda Mobile to the "Earth and Book Festival 2018" and educated students in grades 1-5 about the environment. In addition, the school and parent representatives also enlivened the event by organizing biopore activities around An-Nahl's ecopark.
Students who have been sitting neatly around the ecopark look very enthusiastic to get to know WWF-Indonesia. After opening with the introduction of WWF-Indonesia's Panda Mobile, Kak Ryan continued with storytelling about animals that must be protected. Through the storytelling, it is expected that the students will be more concerned about the preservation of the Earth.
In addition to storytelling, the Panda Mobile team also invited students in grades 1-3 to play tiger-themed cricket and "Explore Papua" games. Guided by Panda Mobile volunteers, the students were able to get to know the animals in the game better.
The last activity conducted with Panda Mobile was watching a movie. This method is very interesting and effective in educating students about endangered animals and the environment. The movies screened at that time were "Plastic Planet" and "Tiger Hunters".
The students also used this opportunity to visit the Panda Mobile truck. On the Panda Mobile truck, students in grades 4-5 participated in water education laboratory activities and got an introduction to hydroponic techniques. The hydroponic technique teaches students to carry out planting activities with water media and minimize plastic bottle waste and can observe microorganisms in the water.
