PANDA MOBILE VOLUNTEER EXPERIENCE IN THE WESTERN TIP OF JAVA ISLAND
My name is Eko Yudha Prawira, or simply Yudha. I am a volunteer for WWF-Indonesia's Panda Mobile, an educational truck that spreads conservation messages. Some time ago, I and other volunteers were invited to help with Panda Mobile activities in Ujung Kulon to commemorate National Nature Conservation Day. Our team consisted of four people, myself, Andre, Tata, and Dwina. We were also accompanied by senior colleagues from WWF-Indonesia, namely Bang Prima, Bang Ipul, Bang Oi, and of course also the "caretaker" of the Panda Mobile truck, namely Pak Yudi.
Preparations were immediately made. After we felt everything was ready, on Friday (07/08) at 14.00 WIB, we started the journey to Ujung Kulon. On the way, we took a short break at the WWF-Indonesia office in the Carita area while picking up our next travel partner Kak Lala, WWF Ujung Kulon staff along with reinforcements of the internship team at WWF Ujung Kulon.
After resting enough, we continued our journey to the location. It had been a long journey and we finally arrived at our rhino homestay, which would be our lone home for the next four days. After finishing packing and moving our belongings, we rushed to rest and get ready for the next day's activities.
Greeting the morning, we already had to rush to the location to prepare the Panda Mobile truck. All participants also looked very busy today. Understandably, the event was officially opened by the Minister of Forestry and Environment, Mrs. Siti Nurbaya. After opening and inaugurating the event, the Minister made a visit to all the supporting booths, including our Panda Mobile. Unexpectedly, I managed to have a conversation with her and I also managed to take a photo with her. Thank you Ibu Siti Nurbaya for your availability.
As the sun aligned directly overhead, the coastal children swarmed into the Panda Mobile and we were overwhelmed. For information, our job as volunteers from Panda Mobile is to facilitate the children in an educational activity with an environmental theme. The activities include storytelling, games and puzzles, watching movies with educational and environmental themes and many other additional activities. We promise the coastal children that tomorrow they can experience the same coloring competition opportunities as the invited participants.
After the afternoon, the children began to leave the event location one by one. And we immediately prepared to pack our belongings and return to our homestay in order to prepare for tomorrow's activities. We are very sure, tomorrow will be a very long and exciting day for our team and also for the coastal children in Sumur village, Ujung Kulon.
The crowing of the rooster in the morning woke us up and reminded us that we had an appointment with the coastal children of Sumur Beach that we had to fulfill, which was to hold a coloring and drawing competition for them. True to our expectations, when we arrived there were already many children from Sumur Beach waiting for our arrival. We immediately prepared everything. One by one we passed the event successfully. Starting from games field, games engklek, 3R, and ice breaking we have passed. The highlight of the event was the drawing and coloring competition. Children who are participants are not required to bring drawing and coloring equipment because we have prepared all the equipment at Panda mobile.
When the competition started, joy was seen on their faces. Although it was a competition, all they could think about was learning and having fun. After everyone had finished submitting their drawings, we quickly told them who won the competition. Even those who didn't win still felt happy because all of them who participated in the competition we gave a small gift. And we are happy because the gift is very much appreciated by them. We are grateful to be able to bring happiness to the coastal children of Sumur Beach packed in an environmental conservation mission in a unique way from WWF-Indonesia's Panda Mobile.
The last day we did not hold the Panda Mobile because it was the day of the closing ceremony of Conservation Day in Ujung Kulon and also the last day we enjoyed the beauty of Sumur Beach in Ujung Kulon. The ceremony was over and that signaled the end of the National Nature Conservation Day commemoration series. We quickly packed up and prepared to return to Jakarta and close the story of our adventures with the children of Ujung Kulon's coast.
Thank you for this unforgettable experience. Greetings conservation!
