There was something interesting about the atmosphere at Tribeca Park Central Park Mall, Jakarta, on Saturday (28/03). As dusk approached, visitors began to flock to the Earth Hour stage area. Yes, like the previous year, the shopping center located in West Jakarta participated and became one of the venues for the Switch Off Earth Hour celebration in Jakarta.
The visitors, mostly families and young people, began to focus their attention towards the stage when Kak Ryan from WWF-Indonesia's Panda Mobile team greeted them with his favorite guitar. This time, Kak Ryan told a story about energy saving. With a very attractive signature style, Kak Ryan invited the children present to sit on the circle of the Earth located at the front of the stage. One of the children named Kenzi, who is in the 3rd grade of elementary school, dared to go up to the stage and answer questions from Kak Ryan.
Kak Ryan's story is about the Energy Monster. Through stories of daily activities, children are taught that excessive use of electronic equipment can suck energy and have a negative impact on the Earth. Laughter was non-stop throughout the fairy tale. The message of energy saving was embedded in their minds.
The storytelling activity in the Switch Off Earth Hour celebration this time is one way to introduce this movement to children. An energy-saving lifestyle with easy steps can become a positive habit that is instilled from an early age.
Exactly at 20:30 local time, the atmosphere in Tribeca Park and the area inside Central Park Mall lacked lighting. The only light in the Tribeca Park area came from the candles that were lit. The lights outside the mall were turned off. From inside the mall, several stores participated in turning off their lights.
The visitors enjoyed the Switch Off atmosphere while being entertained by various interesting performances from ""Kresiparch Recycled Percussion"", flash mobber, and Glow in the Dark Fashion Show by Lasalle College Jakarta. The atmosphere was even warmer when singer Andien entertained the visitors with several songs. The "Gemintang" singer is one of the supporters of the Earth Hour movement. On one occasion, Andien said that the easiest way to generate motivation to care for the environment is to remember the ease and enjoyment that nature has given us. "Now is the time for us to give back to the Earth," she said.
Met after the Switch Off Earth Hour celebration at Central Park Mall, Jakarta, WWF Indonesia Marketing Director, Devy Suradji, revealed, "Earth Hour 2015 is a bit different compared to previous years. The theme of togetherness, participatory, and collaborative has been happening since several years, but this year and the previous year, Earth Hour was organized by those who believe that Earth Hour has a positive impact. If something is done from the heart, the results will be extraordinary. This was reflected not only from the organizers but also from those who came. Moreover, there are more partners this year." Devy stated that this is an indication that Earth Hour has become part of a public campaign because the public feels the impact and wants to participate.
The Switch Off Earth Hour celebration in Jakarta also took place in a number of shopping centers, and was filled with a 7 K night run marathon by the IndoRunners community which started in the Lagoon Terrace area, Hotel Sultan, Jakarta.
