EARTH HOUR 2025, REMINDING HUMANS TO CONTINUE TO PROTECT THE EARTH, AND ITS CREATION
- The largest global environmental movement Earth Hour returns for its 19th year, utilizing 60 minutes to bring people together around the world to celebrate planet Earth.
- The battle with nature has never been higher. Last year was the hottest year on record for this decade, and the hottest ocean temperatures ever recorded. At the same time, we have seen the worst wildfires, storms, and droughts on record. Our world is in peril and rapidly approaching a dangerous tipping point from which critical ecosystems may never recover.
- Coming back to the incredible momentum of 2024, when we reached the milestone of 1.5 million hours, this year’s Earth Hour aims to surpass that target to 2 million hours by inviting individuals to ‘Give an Hour to the Earth’ at earthhour.org/giveanhour by doing something they love, no matter how big or small, because every contribution matters.
JAKARTA, March 21, 2025 -Starting at 8:30 p.m. local time on March 22, Earth Hour, the world's largest environmental grassroots movement, returns for its 19th year with the theme 'The Biggest Hour for Earth' to support and celebrate planet Earth. Earth Hour serves as a beacon of positive hope, and inspiration to bring together as many people as possible in more than 180 countries and territories.
Through Hour Bank, Earth Hour invites everyone, everywhere, to find the most fun way to donate an hour to the Earth. Whether it's cooking a sustainable meal at home, watching a documentary about nature, taking a walk in the woods to enjoy nature and feel the earth, or collecting items at home that aren't eco-friendly and swapping them for eco-friendly alternatives, there are tons of options to choose from. Hour Bank provides a list of activities and events based on each individual's interests and lifestyle preferences, from food and fitness to arts and entertainment.
The "One Hour for Earth" call to action makes participation easy and fun, encouraging individuals to not only symbolically turn off the lights, but also take 60 minutes to do good for the planet by doing something they are passionate about.
Aditya Bayunanda, CEO of WWF-Indonesia Foundation, said, "The Earth Hour movement reminds us to continue to be called to preserve the earth. This year, Earth Hour coincides with the last ten days of Ramadan, a perfect moment to reflect on our role as individuals in protecting His creation, namely nature and everything in it. Maintaining harmony between humans and nature is our duty together, in line with the mandate of Allah SWT who made humans as Khalifah - leaders on earth who are responsible for protecting and prospering the earth."There are currently 20 cities and provinces in Indonesia that are celebrating Earth Hour in Indonesia, including Aceh, Medan, Jambi, Jakarta, Tangerang, Serang, Cimahi, Bandung, Purwokerto, Jogjakarta, Surabaya, Malang, Batu City, Bali, Makassar, Palu, Wajo, Jayapura and others.
Earth Hour is about making environmental action accessible, fun, and meaningful. By aligning our actions with people's interests and passions, we can inspire more people to join the movement. Hour Bank is designed to show that everyone can contribute to protecting the planet, no matter where they are or what they're passionate about. Building on the incredible momentum in 2024, when we reached the milestone of 1.5 million hours, we aim to exceed it to 2 million hours this year. Together, we can create a brighter, more sustainable future."
Earth Hour is not just a moment of celebration, it is a movement that continues to inspire and mobilize people globally, reminding us of our shared responsibility to create a better, more resilient future for our planet.
Earth Hour is not just a moment of celebration.
