CROSSARTA'S CONCRETE ENVIRONMENTAL ACTION WITH WWF-INDONESIA
The WWF Indonesia Foundation in collaboration with Lintasarta implemented the Pillars of Earth Love Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program in order to raise employee awareness of plastic problems that have an impact on the environment. This program was implemented as an effort to overcome the problem of plastic waste that has surged since the Covid-19 pandemic. This was triggered by the need for work from home-based activities to change consumption patterns that are mainly supported by the use of plastic, such as the use of medical masks, fast food packaging, and online shopping packaging.
Based on data from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, nationally there were 18,000 tons of Covid-19 B3 waste in July 2021, and for DKI Jakarta alone, there was an increase in medical waste waste of 45.9 percent (for the period March - July 2021). While other household waste has also increased along with the increase in online shopping for household needs, even though the plastic waste produced takes tens to hundreds of years to decompose.
In response to this problem, the WWF Indonesia Foundation together with Lintasarta held a Discussion on the Conservation of Nature Around Us (Disko Asik) with the theme "Freedom from Plastic Waste." In this activity, the WWF Indonesia Foundation shared information with all Lintasarta employees to classify plastic waste into two types, namely medical waste (in this case mask waste) and household waste. Waste grouping starts from collecting, sorting, and packaging waste in their respective homes. This is an effort to facilitate the processing of waste in accordance with its handling so that it does not become a pile. Where for mask waste, after being sorted, it is then packaged in a closed container and given an infectious writing so that it can be transported or submitted for destruction at a hazardous waste management facility.
In addition to reducing household waste, Lintasarta employees are invited to participate in the "Buy Good" campaign. This can be started by buying goods according to needs, durable, easily decomposed and reducing disposable packaging products, as well as prioritizing eco-friendly products with labels that guarantee production from sustainable and sustainable sources.
Margareth Meutia, Communication, Campaign and PR Team of WWF Indonesia Foundation explained that during the pandemic we can learn to avoid impulse shopping, reduce waste production, together with family members can create a simple waste sorting system and build a habit of sorting waste and recycling it into other usable items or learn to compost from organic waste.
Not only through discussions on waste management, but Lintasarta employees were invited to get involved in reforestation efforts on critical land in the Upper Ciliwung River by adopting trees virtually through MyBabyTree. A total of 100 employees received appreciation by becoming adopters and receiving tree certificates on behalf of employees containing tree coordinates that can be monitored through the wwf.id/mybabytree website. Furthermore, Arya said, the MyBabyTree adoption program is attractively packaged because it also includes elements of technology in it. Where the tree planting is done by the WWF Indonesia Foundation team, and the development of this program can virtually be seen through the internet. Overall, in addition to supporting good waste management, through this collaboration Lintasarta also provides support for conservation programs carried out with local communities in several parts along the Ciliwung River. As is known, the existence of the Ciliwung River is currently threatened by human activities in the form of waste pollution and garbage disposal, because facilities and socialization regarding waste management are still minimal. In the future, the WWF Indonesia Foundation hopes that Lintasarta can also collaborate in environmental awareness efforts such as reforestation in other critical areas in Indonesia which can be carried out on an ongoing basis.
