CONSERVATION MESSAGE WITH PANDA MOBILE IN "PARADOR SHARING" EVENT
By: Mecca Verdiano Boor (Volunteer Panda Mobile)
This year, WWF-Indonesia's Panda Mobile again collaborated with Parador Hotel & Resort to organize a sharing event in welcoming the holy month of Ramadan. The activity themed "Parador Berbagi" was held at Ara Hotel, one of the members of the Parador Hotel & Resort Group at Ara Center, Kelapa Dua, Tangerang, Banten.
The activity that took place on Monday (12/06) involved 50 orphans. The event was opened with an introduction to WWF-Indonesia and Panda Mobile by Pratama Aditya as Panda Mobile Coordinator. The participants were then divided into three groups to take part in various activities typical of Panda Mobile, namely a water education laboratory, educational games, and watching movies.
As the name implies, in the water education laboratory activity, children are invited to recognize the water cycle, water sources, and facts about water. This is done so that they are more appreciative and economical in using water. The children were also educated about the importance of water sources for wildlife, especially the Sumatran Tiger in its habitat in Rimbang Baling, a forest area in Sumatra. After learning about the importance of water, they also tested the pH (acidity) of water using litmus paper and looked at the microbial content in water using a microscope. The children were very enthusiastic about participating in the activities in the water education laboratory.
In the educational game session, they also learned about the importance of water for elephants by playing "Water for Elephant". The game, which is similar to snakes and ladders, contains facts about elephants. Uniquely, children become pawns who will walk according to the number of dice points that come out.
One of the children's favorite Panda Mobile activities is watching movies on the Panda Mobile truck. They watched the movies "The Adventure of Banyu and Water Drops" and "Quartet at The Crossroad". After watching "Quartet at The Crossroad" the children learned various facts about endangered animals and why they are endangered. The opportunity was also used by Panda Mobile volunteers to explain about the umbrella animals that are the focus of WWF-Indonesia's conservation, namely rhinos, Sumatran tigers, Sumatran elephants, orangutans, whale sharks and sea turtles.
The highlight of the whole series of Panda Mobile activities is a story about animals from Kak Ryan. Furthermore, the children were entertained with marawis art followed by remarks from the directors of Parador Hotel & Resort and breaking the fast together.
