"Bumi Panda", an environmental information house managed by WWF-Indonesia, visited another school in Bandung. The visit took place at SDK BPK Penabur International School on Wednesday (16/09). The day's activities began with a brief introduction to WWF-Indonesia and the efforts that WWF-Indonesia has made and is making to protect the sustainability of Indonesia's nature.
A series of activities with the theme of environmental education was carried out in several posts. The first one was the movie watching post. The students were shown a movie about the story of hunters and tigers. They looked very enthusiastic listening to the storyline of the movie. After watching the movie, Angel, a 3rd grade student said, "It turns out that the orangutan in the movie helped the hunter who was about to be attacked by a tiger!" The student's comment was responded to by Dwi Widya Mutiara from Bumi Panda, who explained that if humans love nature, then nature will also love humans. "Like the orangutan in the movie," said Dwi.
In the second post, the students learned about renewable electrical energy through a number of props brought by the Bumi Panda team. "It turns out that wind and sun can produce electricity, Mom!" exclaimed Arman, one of the students. They were also introduced to the global warming that is currently happening. "If we don't save electricity, we are contributing to the formation of a hole in the ozone layer. This happens because of pollution and gas emissions that damage the ozone layer," explained Sani Firmansyah from Bumi Panda.
All students who participated in educational activities on that day also had the opportunity to do 3R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) activities. They were taught to be creative in making photo frames from used cardboard materials. The results of the students' work were immediately exhibited to all parents and teachers in a school festival that took place on the same day.
"The Science Workshop activity carried out by the WWF- Indonesia team is very good. We hope that students at BPK Penabur International School will learn a lot and realize to protect and love the environment around them, as well as implement an environmentally friendly lifestyle," said Frida Wijaya, Principal of BPK Penabur International School Bandung.
