EDUCATION FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT IN DAS KOTO PANJANGAN
A teacher explains how he was selected by the space committee to participate in one of the most horrendous journeys in the history of mankind in an enormous airplane capable of traveling unimaginable distances. The trip will cover a distance of 6,000 years with a diameter of 5km. The pilots in this plane have also been arranged, everything is in place for the trip. The gravity in the craft is the same as on Earth. You will only use technology that you are already familiar with and will have access to solar panel energy throughout the journey. What would you propose to bring along?
The question arose in the Education for Sustainable Development activity in Tanjung Village, Koto Kampar Hulu Sub-district, organized by the Tanjung Village government in collaboration with WWF-Indonesia. This is one of the methods provided by facilitators in the Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) training. The material is able to stimulate trainees to think critically, looking for solutions to any existing problems.
The questions presented above were discussed by the teachers in groups. Each group was asked to describe what items would be carried on the space shuttle mission. The results of the group work are poured into a picture of an airplane complete with items that will be carried. Each group sent a representative to tell the story in front of the forum about the items that would be brought on the mission. Some brought food, durian trees, vegetables, personal equipment, cosmetics, and various facilities that were brought on the plane. Very interesting.
"We brought livestock, plants, and relatives. Because this trip is very long, we bring family members, as well as school," explained Deswanti, a teacher representative of SDN 02 Tanjung Village.
Muhammad Iqbal from another group added, "Our group brought durian tree seeds, rubber, vegetable seeds, and other plants because we analogize traveling like on Earth," Iqbal explained.
The activity, which was held for three days, October 9-11, 2018, was attended by school teachers in Tanjung Village. A total of 24 teachers representing schools consisting of elementary, junior high, MTs, high schools, MAs, and representatives of the Regional Coordinator for Education in Koto Kampar Hulu District participated in the activity with enthusiasm. The first day of the activity began with the delivery of material by the Kampar Regency Education Office and WWF-Indonesia representatives.
