On Saturday (13/06), the West Java Provincial Government held a commemoration of World Environment Day 2015 (""World Environment Day 2015"") at Gedung Sate, Bandung. This year's theme was "Seven Billion Dreams, One Planet, Consume With Care". The event was chaired by the Deputy Governor of West Java, Deddy Mizwar, and attended by the Minister of Environment and Forestry of the Republic of Indonesia, Dr. Ir. Siti Nurbaya, M.Sc.
In her remarks, Siti Nurbaya said that World Environment Day is commemorated as an affirmation of the commitment and action on environmental management and protection of all countries in the world. The Indonesian government invites and actively involves the community in protecting natural resources which is one of the important elements in building and maintaining national resilience.
"The Indonesian Ministry of Environment and Forestry continues to ask the West Java Provincial Government not to tolerate and take firm action against environmental destroyers in accordance with applicable regulations. There are several orders from the President to continue efforts to overcome damage and destruction of the environment and forestry. There is no tolerance whatsoever for environmental and forestry destroyers, no tolerance for illegal fishing, illegal mining, and illegal logging," he said.
Bumi Panda also enlivened the commemoration of World Environment Day by introducing and educating students and teachers representing 167 schools in West Java categorized as ""Environmental Cultured Schools"". The students and teachers were introduced to the animals protected by WWF-Indonesia, namely the Javan Rhino, Bornean Orangutan, Sumatran Elephant, Sumatran Tiger, turtle, and shark. The way of introduction is done through games interesting, such as snakes and ladders 'Gajah Main ke Sungai' and orangutan-themed cranklek.
During the activity, a high school student named Putri asked a question, "How do we help the animals in the forest?" Deftly and in detail, the volunteer sister of Bumi Panda WWF-Indonesia explained that there are many things that can be done without going directly to the forest. Namely, by supporting various conservation efforts carried out by WWF-Indonesia and applying an environmentally friendly green lifestyle. An easy example is by throwing garbage in its place, minimizing the use of plastic, saving water, paper, and energy.
