WHAT IS SAFEGUARD?

Safeguard are a set of standards, policies, planning and implementation mechanisms, and compliance systems that govern how activities are carried out to safeguard people and the environment from harm.

In WWF, safeguards:

• Ensure that conservation efforts do not have adverse social and environmental impacts, and most important, help ensure the protection of human rights.
• Are implemented in the landscapes where WWF has activities, whether those be direct, co-managed or managedthrough a third party (or parties).
• Are a formal and documented management system that helps us to keep record of our interventions.
