VICE PRESIDENT BOEDIONO CALLS FOR THE PROTECTION OF SEA TURTLES
Jakarta, November 1, 2012 - The Vice President of Indonesia, Boediono, conveyed the importance of protecting the environment, saving water, and protecting unique species such as sea turtles to hundreds of students at the opening ceremony of the Science Film Festival (SFF) 2012 at Blitz Megaplex, Grand Indonesia, Jakarta. At the opening of the annual film festival, the vice president, representatives of friendly countries, and around 500 school students had the opportunity to watch a short film from WWF-Indonesia entitled "A Song for Tukik" which tells the story of sea turtle conservation in Wakatobi National Park as well as several other films.
Boediono continued in his speech that the very important function of water for life can be maintained even by the generation that is currently still in school by doing small and simple things such as saving daily water usage when bathing, watering plants, and even reminding parents to wash the car wisely.
SFF 2012 is a scientific film screening event that is easily understood by all people, even children. This movie screening event became the second time for WWF-Indonesia to participate in its implementation. The movie A Song for Hatchlings was chosen to be the only one from Indonesia in this international event. The selected films were not only screened in Indonesia, but also in SFF 2012 in other Asian countries such as Thailand, Cambodia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar, and the Philippines. Last year's event in Indonesia was attended by more than 25 thousand viewers in 17 cities in 10 provinces. SFF 2012 was held on November 1-15, 2012.
