TRAINING ON LAND USE MONITORING PLATFORM AND ESG ASPECTS OF MINING SECTOR FOR CIVIL SOCIETY ORGANIZATIONS IN SOUTHEAST SULAWESI
Auriga Nusantara has conducted two capacity building trainings for civil society organizations in Southeast Sulawesi to strengthen environmental monitoring and data-based natural resource governance. This activity was organized in response to the dynamics of land use change and increasing mining activities that have an impact on the environment and community management space in the region.

The first training focused on monitoring land use and cover change through the use of the Mapbiomas Indonesia platform. Participants were equipped with the skills to access and analyze spatial data on periodic land cover change, identify trends in deforestation and land conversion, and link data findings to local conditions and policies. This approach encourages the use of science-based data as a basis for environmental monitoring and advocacy.
The second training discussed monitoring the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) aspects of the mining sector through the use of Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) and the Responsible Mining Index (RMI). In this session, participants learned how to search and verify information from various open sources to assess mining companies' risks, impacts and commitments to environmental, social and governance issues.

A total of 22 participants attended this series of trainings, consisting of 11 women and 11 men, representing 10 civil society organizations (CSOs) in Southeast Sulawesi. Through this training, Auriga Nusantara hopes to strengthen the role of local civil society in independent monitoring, encourage transparency and accountability in the land-based and extractive sectors, and support more equitable and sustainable natural resource management.
