A THOUSAND BOOKS FOR CENDERAWASIH BAY

As much as 144 seats inside the studio 6 of Blitz Megaplex in Grand Indonesia were almost fully seated on “Big Miracle” movie screening, Friday, July 6th, 2012. The movie screening of the movie based on true story about whales rescue in Artic was part of the networking WWF-Marinebuddies community. This movie screening purposed to collect book donation for the people of Cenderwasih Bay, West papua, and also was a part of WWF-Indonesia Seafood Guide socialization.
The movie itself had been launched in Hollywood early in 2012, but never reach Indonesia theatre. Strong message in this movie is based on true story about 3 grey whales trapped in the freezing block of ocean, they must escape before too late or die freezing. Inuit people, the local people in the area finally changed their perspective about the trapped whales, the have to rescue instead of to eat them for the sake of future generation. In short, the rescue was a big effort involving governments, media, also industry or business sectors.
Before the movie begin, buddies – a nick for the sea lover of WWF-Marinebuddies network – was presented a brief information regarding WWF-Indonesia Gurano Bintang MV (Motor Vessel) in Teluk Cenderawasih National Park (TCNP). The motor vessel that is built by WWF-Indonesia with the support of partners in are aim its target to achieve development in education sector, improvement in health of the people, and to involved in patrol and monitoring inside the TCNP area.
The event was conducted equally by WWF-Marinebuddies, and Dive Indonesia, also Movie Explorer and of course with the participation of all the buddies. It has been succeeded in collecting 1.000 copies of book including education subject book, story book for kids, and also encyclopedias. Among 300 of them were writing books. Those books now are being sent to Manokwari and to be forwarded to Wasior soon to be in the bookshelf of Gurano Bintang MV. This movie screening event were able to be conducted by the support of this following participant; Greeneration Indonesia, Oktagon Group, What The Fish, Scuba Diver Australasia Indonesia Magazine, and also Global Dive Center.
