RHINOCEROS HORNBILL (BUCEROS RHINOCEROS)
The rhinoceros hornbill (Buceros rhinoceros) is one of the largest hornbill species in Asia. It spends its time at the top of the forest canopy feeding on fruits, insects, small reptiles, rodents and small birds. Rhinoceros hornbills have a unique behavior; females nest in tree holes that are then covered with mud. During the time the female bird stays in the hole she is fed by the male bird.
According to the IUCN Red List, the rhinoceros hornbill is a species of endangered species. CITES also classifies this bird as Appendix II, a species that is prohibited from international commercial trade due to near scarcity, unless such trade is subject to strict regulations, so that inappropriate utilization can be avoided.
