Not wanting to be left behind with other schools that also celebrate Earth Day, SD Islam Amalina located in Pondok Aren, Tangerang, also filled Earth Day with special activities. They invited WWF-Indonesia's Panda Mobile on Friday (20/04) to introduce students to protected animals and ways to protect the Earth.
The activity began in the hall of SD Islam Amalina with an introduction to protected animals. In the explanation, the students were also introduced to various conservation programs conducted by WWF-Indonesia. Their knowledge of protected animals was further enhanced when the storytelling session was presented by Kak Iyan about elephants and orangutans. The students who listened to the story were more enthusiastic to participate in protecting and preserving endangered animals and the environment.
The students also had the opportunity to get to know the endemic animals of Papua through the game "Explore Papua". This game was very popular with the students of SD Islam Amalina because it was very fun. Information to students about protected animals is expected to open their horizons so that they can contribute to efforts to save animals and preserve nature.
After gaining various knowledge about endangered animals, the students were invited to practice directly one of the ways to reduce plastic waste, namely by utilizing used items into useful objects. They were taught to use used plastic bottles for hydroponic activities. This activity is a farming activity using water. "Planting with hydroponics is very efficient because the tools used are very easy to find. We can use used plastic bottles that are no longer used," explained Annisa, one of Panda Mobile's volunteers while demonstrating how. All the students paid close attention and then tried to make it.
Another activity that teaches students to care more about the environment is the water lab. The volunteers showed the content in clean and dirty water through a microscope. Through this activity, students were encouraged to use water more wisely.
