On Friday (22/08), WWF-Indonesia's Panda Mobile team visited Cilegon, Banten. Panda Mobile is a six-wheel truck used by WWF-Indonesia to conduct conservation activities in public areas. In collaboration with Ciputra, WWF-Indonesia's Panda Mobile team held various activities in the Citra Garden BMW housing complex. The series of activities that took place on August 22-23, 2015 was titled "One Kid, One Tree, One Live for Better Future".
Andre Utama, General Manager Marketing Ciputra, explained that the purpose of this event is to show the commitment of Citra Garden BMW housing in realizing a beautiful, green, and healthy environment. "Activities like this are very helpful for the community to be more familiar with the environment. They can get educational materials from WWF-Indonesia while enjoying the various activities held," explained Andre.
This environmental-themed activity with an outdoor concept was attended by around 200 children from several elementary schools in Cilegon and surrounding areas. For this reason, the Panda Mobile team was deliberately divided into four divisions to maximize assistance to event participants. The four divisions were the Rhino team, which consisted of Singapore International School students in grades 1-6, the Tiger team, which consisted of students from various schools in grades 4-6, the Turtle team, which consisted of students from various schools in grades 1-3, and the Orangutan team, which consisted of students with special needs.
The activity began with planting tree seedlings together. Ciputra has prepared holes that are ready to be planted by the students. They looked very enthusiastic about the process of planting the tree seedlings. Tree seedlings that have been put into the hole, then backfilled with soil that has been provided.
Next, the students listened to storytelling from Kak Ryan. They really enjoyed the story and laughed together. Despite the scorching heat, the spirit of these elementary school-aged children did not falter in participating in the next event, which was the coloring competition. This activity was carried out simultaneously under the supervision of the Panda Mobile team. Diligently, they completed their work. The coloring competition was divided into two groups based on the level of difficulty; the first group was in the grade 1-3 elementary school category, while the second group was in the grade 4-6 elementary school category.
While waiting for the judges to decide the winner of the competition, the participants were invited to play by their respective older siblings from the Panda Mobile team. The Rhino team was invited to watch a movie and discuss about the environment, and the Tiger team participated in a 3R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) activity making photo frames from used cardboard and making bags from used T-shirts. Meanwhile, the Turtle team played in the 3R activities and some were invited to play cranklek/snake ladder. The event, which ended at 15.00 WIB, was closed by handing over prizes to the winners of the coloring competition.
