In collaboration with Indonesian Plush Community, WWF-Indonesia's Panda Mobile invites students of As Sakinah School, Tangerang to love nature more. The activity, which was carried out on Monday (30/07), began with introducing endangered animals in the form of dolls to the students. The dolls were in the form of rhinos, elephants and turtles made by members of the Plush Indonesia Community.
Next, Mr. Ryan, a storyteller from WWF-Indonesia's Panda Mobile, told a story about orangutans and tigers that are endangered due to the loss of forests where they live. Students from As Sakinah School listened to the story with great enthusiasm. The storytelling was even more special as the information and tales from Panda Mobile were translated using sign language as some of the participants were hearing impaired.
The activity, which was attended by 200 elementary and junior high school students, was held on the badminton court. Furthermore, the junior high school students were invited to make cloth bags made from used T-shirts. By utilizing used t-shirts into more useful items, they have helped reduce the amount of waste. "It turns out that these used t-shirts can be made into cloth bags instead of plastic bags. I'll use this when I go out for snacks, sis!" said Azwar, a student at As Sakinah Junior High School.
In addition to being creative, they were invited to the Panda Mobile truck to watch a video together about the causes and consequences of animal extinction through the video "Quartet of The Crossroads". Through this video, the students gained new knowledge that many animals have lost their homes due to illegal logging by certain individuals. After watching, the students left the Panda Mobile truck happy. The joint activity ended with a group photo with the teachers and the Plush Indonesia Community.
As Sakinah students were asked to participate in preserving umbrella animals by protecting the environment and protecting endangered animals. "Protecting nature and its contents is a shared responsibility, as well as friends with special needs such as the hearing and speech impaired, they also have a big contribution to support environmental conservation efforts," said Lisma, Chairperson of the As Sakinah School Foundation.
