On Monday-Wednesday, September 14-16, 2015, Panda Mobile took part in the "2015 Library Visit Day" organized by the Directorate of Library and Agricultural Technology Dissemination (PUSTAKA) in Bogor, West Java. Library Visiting Day is an annual activity carried out by PUSTAKA to increase public interest in reading, writing and loving knowledge through libraries.
The presence of the Panda Mobile truck in the courtyard of the PUSTAKA office attracted the attention of hundreds of elementary to high school students from various schools in Bogor City who came to fulfill the invitation from PUSTAKA. The back cabin of the truck that can be opened and "transformed" into a library and a facility to watch movies makes them amazed and enthusiastic. WWF-Indonesia's educational truck library has a collection of 100 books on environmental education.
The number of students who attended had overwhelmed the Panda Mobile team. As many as 1,800 students attended the three-day Library Visit Day. However, the creativity and various activities around environmental education presented by the Panda Mobile team were able to accommodate the large number of students.
The Panda Mobile team's program opened with one of the volunteers greeting the students. He then energized the students with the "Spirit Clap". Afterwards, the students were introduced to WWF-Indonesia and the rescue and protection activities of Indonesia's oldest nature conservation organization. Then in groups they had the opportunity to ride the Panda Mobile truck and watch the movie "Tiger Hunter".
At the same time, another group observed a plant in a glass bottle. They saw how the plant grew and what conditions it needed to survive. The love for the environment was also nurtured by teaching them to utilize used items into more useful objects through 3R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) activities. Old newspapers were made into beautiful flower-shaped brooches.
Hundreds of students from all over Bogor City were also entertained with environmental-themed storytelling by Kak Ryan. Taking place in front of the Panda Mobile truck, they followed the story of an orangutan who was separated from its mother because of irresponsible humans. Fortunately, there are still people who care about the environment and nature conservation organizations such as WWF so that these almost extinct animals can be saved. "Don't you want to help endangered animals like this orangutan?" asked Kak Ryan. "I do!" the students answered in unison.
The conservation message conveyed by the Panda Mobile team is in line with the intention of the PUSTAKA who invited the presence of Panda Mobile to socialize environmental love to visitors to the Library Visitor Day. After participating in activities on the Panda Mobile and traveling around the library, the students in the Rainy City received souvenirs in the form of plant seeds.
