The #BeliYangBaik festival organized by WWF-Indonesia at Bintaro Jaya Xchange Mall, Tangerang on Saturday-Sunday, (August 8-9) aims to educate Indonesian families to start living a green lifestyle. Not surprisingly, there were many children present with their parents that day.
That's why WWF-Indonesia brought Panda Mobile to the weekend-long festival. Panda Mobile organized an arena for the game of cricket. The game became a medium to introduce orangutan species, habitat, and food to the children so that they would love and feel ownership of these charismatic animals. They then received an explanation that the orangutan's habitat is increasingly pressured due to land clearing for oil palm plantations. Therefore, the palm oil-based products we use daily must come from responsible palm oil plantation sources so that the orangutan's habitat is not disturbed.
During the festival, around 100 children visited Panda Mobile's booth and did various interesting activities with the volunteers. Apart from playing cricket, they also engaged in 3R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) activities, namely making whales from folded old newspapers and then coloring them. While making crafts from the old newspapers, the children were educated about the sea. All the children were very happy when they heard stories about whales, sharks and dolphins. They looked sad when they heard about sharks being hunted for food. The children also promised to tell their parents and family members not to eat shark soup because they really want to see sharks remain sustainable in the sea.
Not only the children, the accompanying parents were also enthusiastic about learning more about how to preserve nature. The message of the #BuyWhat'sGood campaign was delivered through a fun medium.
