The buzz of responsible seafood or seafood that uses sustainable fisheries principles in its activities has long been circulating. However, the introduction of these environmentally-friendly seafood products is rare. If the public can directly experience responsible products that have added value not only in terms of quality, then the awareness to use environmentally friendly seafood products will be realized faster. So, to make the public aware of responsible seafood products, on May 16, Seafood Savers held an event titled "In Store Campaign: Responsible Seafood For A Healthy Living".
The event, which took place at Komunal 88 Cafe Market, aimed to introduce environmentally friendly seafood products and fisheries improvement programs carried by Seafood Savers. Invited guests from various backgrounds, such as hotels, nature conservation communities, journalists, students, and the general public, have enlivened the dining concept event.
"For seafood connoisseurs, responsible seafood or environmentally friendly seafood may have been heard often. Today we gather together to learn more about what is responsible seafood over dinner." Said Hasrul Kokoh, Manager of Fish 'n Blues, in his speech.
The event was followed by a presentation from Febrina Berlianti, Seafood Savers Officer, who explained the profile of Seafood Savers as a medium between fisheries businesses with ASC (Aquaculture Stewardship Councill) and MSC (Marine Stewawrdship Council) ecolabel certification. Febrina also explained the improvement program as well as the work location map of Seafood Savers member companies and retailers consisting of 9 capture fisheries companies and 5 aquaculture companies that are working towards MSC and ASC certification. Before closing her presentation, Febrina did not forget to introduce Fish 'n Blues as a Seafood Savers member for MSC eco-label certification.
One of the series of events that succeeded in bringing enthusiasm to invited guests was a talk show session that discussed the issue of environmentally friendly seafood with Fish 'n Blues and Seafood Savers. This was reflected in the many questions asked by invited guests regarding the criteria for organic fish, the function of mangroves for fish sustainability and the role of Seafood Savers to invite companies to ASC and MSC certification.
According to Kokoh, the indicators of organic fish are fish that are caught without the use of bombs and harmful chemicals. In addition, the fishing gear and products are selectively chosen, and the processing is without the use of preservatives.
"As a member of Seafood Savers, we welcome this event. The introduction of responsible seafood done together will bring a more significant impact. It is hoped that this event can give a positive impression and impact to the invited guests, so that fisheries improvement activities can grow rapidly." added Kokoh.
At the end of the event, Chef Nicola from Komunal 88 held a cooking demo based on seafood products from Fish 'n Blues with the menu Tuna Tartare with Avocado, Pesto and Strawberry Sauce. In addition, Clams Chowder, a spicy dish made from Feather Clams and Spicy Gindara Orecchiette made from Gindara Fish were also served to the guests.
