EARTH HOUR INDONESIA 2015 SUPPORTS 7 PROGRAMS #INIAKSIKU
Jakarta (26/3) - For the seventh time in Indonesia, EARTH HOUR through the #IniAksiku call carries the local theme "Green the Forest, Blue the Sea". This message is realized through local conservation activities through actions in the ocean and coastal sectors, deforestation, biodiversity, waste, rivers and water, public transportation, and energy.
In EARTH HOUR 2015, WWF-Indonesia supports the collaboration between the EARTH HOUR Community in 11 cities with the Indorunners community that carries "7 K, 7 Regions, 7 Causes". Taking place on March 28 at 20.30-21.30 local time, "7 K, 7 Regions, 7 Causes" is a night marathon run in at least 7 regions in Indonesia, covering a 7 km route for 1 hour to support 7 conservation programs. Through "7 K, 7 Regions, 7 Causes", EARTH HOUR Indonesia inspires the public to commit to supporting 7 conservation programs through the website Indokasih.com. The conservation programs focus on mangrove, coral reef and sea turtle conservation efforts.
Another way to be part of EARTH HOUR Indonesia 2015 is to support and make #BeliYangBaik part of a lifestyle change movement. Everyone is expected to sign their stance on the Change.org/Indonesia website to commit to three main principles, namely knowing, finding out and understanding about the background of the product before consuming it. The public is invited to realize that their consumption patterns contribute to the resilience and vulnerability of the earth to the impacts of climate change.
"This year, EARTH HOUR provides opportunities for the public to participate with different platforms, all of which are part of #IniAksiku to preserve the earth from the threat of climate change. In addition to continuing an environmentally friendly lifestyle, EARTH HOUR invites all of us to contribute significantly to conservation activities driven by the EARTH HOUR Indonesia Community," said Nyoman Iswarayoga, Director of Communications and Advocacy of WWF-Indonesia, in a press statement held at Hotel Indonesia Kempinski, Jakarta, which is one of the partners supporting the implementation of Switch Off in EARTH HOUR 2015. "The EARTH HOUR night celebration is a reminder to always renew our commitment to the changes we can make in reducing the impact of climate change. We can only succeed if we do it together and continuously," he continued.
Starting in Jakarta in 2009, this year at least 29 cities in Indonesia have committed to be part of the EARTH HOUR movement in Indonesia. These cities are Banda Aceh, Padang, Medan, Palembang, Pekanbaru, Lampung, Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, Bekasi, Bandung, Cimahi, Solo, Yogyakarta, Surabaya, Malang, Batu City, Sidoarjo, Kediri, Denpasar, Mataram, Pontianak, Palangka Raya, Banjarmasin, Balikpapan, Samarinda, Palu and Makassar.
Globally, EARTH HOUR 2015 raises the theme 'USE #YOURPOWER TO CHANGE CLIM△TE CHANGE', inviting the public to jointly take action to prevent the impact of climate change, by making better changes for a sustainable future of the earth.
The global EARTH HOUR movement began in 2007 in Sydney, Australia, as a simultaneous action of individuals, communities, corporations, and governments in an effort to reduce the rate of global warming and the impacts of climate change. In just seven years, the EARTH HOUR movement has grown into the largest mass participation action in the world. Growing from just 1 city to 7000 cities, from 1 country to 162 countries, EARTH HOUR is now recognized as the largest global environmental campaign in history."THIS IS MY ACTION! WHERE'S YOUR ACTION?"

Editor's Note:
EARTH HOUR is one of WWF's global campaigns that invites individuals, communities, business practitioners, and governments around the world to care about climate change caused by human activities, by doing something simple but will have a tremendous impact if made into a lifestyle: turning off lights and electronic equipment that is not being used for 1 hour, on every Saturday in the 3rd week of March every year. It was first practiced in 2007 in Sydney, Australia, and started in 2009 in Indonesia. From just Jakarta, in 2014 EARTH HOUR Indonesia successfully expanded to more than 30 cities.
