A painting exhibition and auction dedicated to WWF-Indonesia's "Save Our Tigers" program opened last evening (03/09) at Glitch Imaginarium Art Gallery, SCBD Jakarta. The event, which will run until September 24, was initiated by CoExist and fully supported by WWF-Indonesia and Face of Charities, featuring the works of 3 young painting artists who tell stories about the subliminal bonds between humans, animals, and the universe.
In the next session, Sunarto, WWF-Indonesia's Tiger and Elephant Specialist, delivered a brief presentation on the condition of Sumatran Tigers in Indonesia and the problems they face so that the main predator is considered endangered. "The three main threats to the Sumatran Tiger's existence include habitat loss due to human deforestation activities, tiger-human conflict, and illegal hunting." Sunarto also showed a short film showing the Sumatran Tiger's original habitat and the facts surrounding this charismatic animal that influences human behavior and culture.
The highlight of the event was the auction of two paintings, "Sentimentally Bound" by Ang Che Che, and "Ego" by Rukmunal Hakim. The proceeds of the auction that night totaled Rp 31 million, a quarter of which was donated to the conservation work on Sumatran Tigers carried out by WWF-Indonesia.
