BMP MANGROVE CRAB FISHERY
Author: Windy Rizki (Capture Fisheries Officer, WWF-Indonesia)
Better Management Practices (BMP), Small Scale Fisheries Guidance Series, Mangrove Crab Fishery is one of the capture fisheries guidelines compiled by the WWF-Indonesia Fisheries Team and published in 2015. The Mangrove Crab BMP can be used as a guide for fishermen to catch mangrove crabs in a more environmentally friendly way. This is not only in the interest of preserving the marine ecosystem and the sustainability of fisheries resources, but also ensuring the sustainability of the livelihood of mangrove crab fishers themselves.
The preparation of the Mangrove Crab BMP was carried out through various stages, namely:
- Field data collection at pilot sites such as Pemalang;
- Discussion with relevant stakeholders such as government, academics and fishermen;
- Assistance activities for mangrove crab fishermen carried out by WWF-Indonesia and partners in Bunaken and Pemalang;
- Literature study of the results of the study.
- Literature study of other research results.
This BMP is a flexible (living document), which will continue to be refined in accordance with developments in the field and input from relevant parties. The Mangrove Crab BMP is one of WWF-Indonesia's contributions in supporting sustainable fisheries management in Indonesia.
